Let me just say they are a solid option for tacos. This is my second visit, but first was near start of pandemic and service was off, so I’ll give them a pass. This time the food was better, but service was still off. My GF ordered tacos without onions and they came with onions. No biggie if they just fixed it, but they made it our issue asking questions like why we didn’t look at receipt to confirm, etc. they even asked if this was our first time there, as if there was a process we should be aware of. Is this our version of the “soup nazi” from Seinfeld :)? “No tacos for you”! :)
Could we have checked? Sure, but the person who took our order repeated it back to us to be sure, cause I order mine with everything and hers were w/o onions, so she made it clear to put them on different plates so they don’t get mixed up. Anyway, they should work on that.
Food wise, the stand outs were the homemade tortillas, Carne asada and red salsa. Everything else, like carnitas, buche, Al pastor, guac and green salsa were good, not great.
Carne asada had the smoky flavors from being grilled over mesquite (or whatever wood/coals) and it makes a difference. Red salsa was spicy and unique. Homemade tortillas, what can I say. The extra effort pats off.
I have to go out of my way to get here, so it will be on my list of taco places, but won’t go out of my way mostly because the service. If I’m going to go out of my way, LA has better versions.
Give them a try yourself, but I don’t need attitude with my food. Would have been fine if they just replaced the tacos. Don’t even need a apology. It happens. Just don’t need...
Read moreReally impressed by this place given how small of a shop it is (not that small shops do a bad, job, just given how good it is I would have expected more traffic).
I had 6 tacos; chorizo, tripa, chicharron, cabeza, carnitas and pastor. The cabeza and tripa were my favorites. The cabeza was incredibly soft and moist, fatty, sweet, exactly the way cabeza is supposed to be. Seriously, bravo and thank you. The tripa was super crispy but not super greasy, and had that classic tripa taste, but it didn't hit until way late. The chicharron was super soft and pretty much melted in my mouth. The carnitas were super unique, tasted very much like pork, but rather than being super shredded they were both shredded and chunked, a little bit less wet than I'm used to, almost like halfway between Mexican and Salvadorean carnitas. It was super good. The pastor and chorizo were also super delicious, both incredibly flavorful, they just didn't steal the show for me. The red salsa was not very spicy but was super flavorful, and the green salsa was some of the best green I've had in a long time. The pickled onions were so good I wanted to take a whole plate home, spicy, sour, oniony, put them on all your tacos please.
I will...
Read morePretty good Tacos! I had al pastor and butche. One of the few brick and mortar taco spots that has true al pastor from the trompo(spit) and hand made tortillas. Personally I like butche dorado(they throw it on the grill and make it a bit crunchy. The street taco guys usually do this) So I ordered my Tacos that way but they didn't do it. I'm not sure if the young lady knew what I was talking about bc it's kinda like the secret menu at In and out. Tacos were still pretty tasty. The green salsa is ok but needs more spice. The red sauce is FIRE! Literally and figuratively! The Tacos come with a good dallup of guac which is pretty good but when you get them to go they get kind of messy. I will try to order the guac on the side. I also like that they give you cebollas asadas(grilled onions). Overall it was a good experience and the price is reasonable. If they would've grilled the butche or if the green salsa was a bit spicier I would give 5* Probably as close as you get to street tacos from a brick and...
