The train station doesn't have WiFi, but when I saw that the 'Station Taproom' across the street had a network, and there were no coffee shops in sight, I thought I'd go in, buy a beer, and sit at the bar for a little while. I could see just before I walked in that the place was a little more upscale than I'd thought, being the 'Station Taproom', but the bar was empty, and I sat at the far end of it with my bags (being the 'Station Taproom'). I wasn't really interested in drinking, so I asked for my go-to for cheap beers, Coors Light. A lot of places are microbrews, but I felt a little profiled at that point. No worries- it was only $5 for one of their offerings, and I ordered whatever seemed easy from the menu. Whether it was me not drinking, or my luggage at the end of the bar (as out of sight as I could make it), I started to get the sense pretty early on that I wasn't particularly welcome at the Station Taproom during my stopover in town. To make matters worse, when I became concerned that some of the passive aggressive banter between the staff might lead to something more hostile and retaliatory, I decided it was time to leave. I mentioned to the bartender that I'd like the check, and she claimed that not only had she not served me, but the beer wasn't my first (I hadn't touched it- it was sitting there completely full). Fortunately, whether it was the other staff around (not all of whom seemed unfriendly, although, unfortunately, they weren't in a position to speak up against their colleague), or just not wanting to persist with it, she didn't pursue the idea any further, perhaps because I'd left a (relatively) generous tip. I had similar, and potentially-related, experiences down the road from the station afterward: the ice cream store that called their manager about their WiFi password, when they have two networks (I'd paid while they were checking with her, as a measure of good faith), one for staff and one for patrons; the sub shop across the street where the employees seemed to be looking at the password, below and to the left of the cash register, and telling me that there wasn't WiFi (the 'dirt pudding' looked really good, and I was all set to buy one and a water). Finally, I found a home at Mickie D's! It would have been nice if someone had pointed me there, although it certainly isn't their job. Looks like there's a Chik-Fil-A...
Read moreWhat a great find! I’m a lover of dinners for breakfast, but the one down the road from here has gone way down hill. So we went looking for someplace close and good. Prior to this morning I had no idea they did brunch, when we drove by we saw people in the window so off to google I went. A Quick Look at the ‘menu’ google has online and off we went! The menu google shows isn’t what they had, but it didn’t matter. I spent 30+ years of my life running restaurants and specifically kitchens. I can comfortable say this was hands down the best breakfast / brunch I’ve had that I can remember. 90% of the time I don’t touch home fries, as they are almost never cooked right. I took what I couldn’t finish home…! The Scrapple Eggs Benedict were amazing. A perfectly poached and then deep fried egg, rich and runny yolks with an added crunch! I can’t wait for next weekend when I can have them again. We sat at a high top near the bar, so the bar tender was our server. No legitimate complaints about service, except with a busy bar it was a little slow and sporadic. That’s not really a complaint, anyone that’s ever eaten at a pub such as this knows when the bar is busy, the bartender can’t get to you as fast. It would have been great if the other servers at least ran our food after looking at it in the window for a couple min. That said if the only seats available next time we make it are the high tops, we’ll sit there without hesitation! I spent a total of $9.00 more than at the dinner down the street, we ordered more food, and have leftovers. Absolutely worth...
Read moreUpdate: I finally ordered something I didn't like at all. The Mac and cheese with the buffalo sauce chicken bites with bacon. I thought the cheese in the Mac and cheese was bland, the chicken was over sauced and somehow made the mac and cheese taste like mustard. My husband liked it but it was just not for me.
Original post: Always great food and service.
We went at about 5:30 on a Thursday where it didn't have any tables at the time so we sat at the bar which was fine, fun even. One of the bartenders Kerry was extremely friendly and attentive, we liked the female bartender too she was nice enough to explain what was in the drinks for me.
We went to happy hour so we got food from the snack menu and the pulled pork sandwich. The truffled fries were on but they should just call them regular fries because there's no way anyone could tell there's truffle in them, the deviled eggs were good but too salty, and the pulled pork was probably the best but a little under salted.
As for cocktails the tequila cherry sour was good maybe a little on the bland side and the mezcal pineapple paloma I didn't like at all, tasted way too salty. The cucumber cooler looked really good and so did the pomegranate jalapeno margarita so I may try those next time.
Went another time for brunch with my daughter. Her breakfast burger was delicious. I got the biscuits and gravy with an egg, which was good but her burger was better. I tried a Bellini and I thought it was...
