I really really really want to live this place. Iâm a huge fan of diners! Iâm not sure what happened here, but this place has gone down hill quickly, in food quality, and the prices have shot through the roof. The last meal I had was Eggs Benedict. I had to send it back because the eggs were overcooked. The recook came and the eggs whites werenât even fully cooked. The hollandaise is a pre mix. Tastes powdery and not rich at all. I ordered a side of corned beef hash, and Iâm not exactly sure what came out. It looked like something that was pressed into a loaf pan, sliced about1/2- 3/4 of an inch thick and tossed in the microwave to heat up.
A year is so ago the wait staff was your typical diner wait staff, and it was awesome! Getting your attention from behind the counter to ask if you need more coffee, or just walking through with a coffee pot filling you up. Funny, friendly, quick, and personable. Thats no longer the case. Itâs hit or miss what Kim if service youâll get. Between 1/2 decent and poor.
Prices have shot through the roof as well. Yes I completely understand costs have gone up everywhere. But if Iâm paying $15+ for eggs Benedict, I at least expect home made hollandaise sauce. I mean itâs actually cheaper to make it than to use some nasty premix. My daughter gets the pancakes and has noticed a change in their quality also.
Diners are all about good, simple, quick, âhome styleâ meals in a friendly atmosphere. This place no longer offers that. Food is subpar, staff isnât what it used to be, and the prices are absurd. Near $50 for coffee, eggs, pancakes, and a side. Maybe Iâll go back in a few months, but after 30-40 attempts itâs no longer a breakfast stop for us. Hopefully they figure out how to get back to...
Read moreSo last night, my friends went to this diner. I was not able to attend for personal reasons but they informed me that they had a very unpleasant time with one of the waitresses that they referred to as "angry specimen," and many more. I asked them what had occurred and they proceeded to tell me that while they were enjoying their time at this diner the "angry specimen" came up to them and told them that they were being loud and that they could either "shut up or get out." In case you haven't noticed, that's substantially rude especially to a group of young adults. They turned around and apologized to the citizens behind them for being "too loud" but the citizens then told them that they weren't being loud at all and that they weren't bothering them. But they decided to leave anyway because this woman had ruined the vibes. This diner has been a place of happiness and joy. But ever since this incident with this unusually angered woman it is now home of the angry female homosapien who kicked them out for being "too loud." Avoid this horrible, angry, distasteful female if you ever enter...
Read moreI had lived in the area of Downingtown for many years. Even worked right down the street from the diner as a teenager, but never visited.
Today my wife and I were back in the area and we decided to take a stroll down memory lane, and it was time for a bite to eat. What better place to try than the famous Home of the Blob Downingtown Diner. We ordered a cheesesteak platter and a reuben special. We were pleasantly surprised at how quickly the food came out but even more so at how well it was prepared. The cheesesteak was delicious, the meat had a lot of flavor. The Reuben was the same, not a lot of gristle straight up perfect. Both came with french fries which were fantastic - batterd and delicious. More than we ever expected out of a small little diner like this.
Karen waited on us and was really nice and very pleasant to talk to. The place was clean, with a great atmosphere. Worth the trip - we...
