Overall, it’s was a 3/5 for us.
The good: The food was really good- close enough to a 5/5. We were happy to see a good Japanese curry locally as we usually go to San Francisco for this or make it at home. We were recommended this by a friend and we’re satisfied with the recommendation
The bad: The service we had was definitely a 1 or 2 star. The reason being the following: —We went 3 hours before closing and they ran out of beef so we had to substitute to another meat (which is fine- but we waited 30 minutes before we were notified) —After placing the new order, we waited an additional 30 minutes before we had to complain that we hadn’t be fed yet and had to watch 6 other customers being served the same meal. The food came out immediately (5 minutes) after that complaint. We knew were had been forgotten and glad we said something. It appears that they gave us an extra side as an apology but I wasn’t a fan of it (appreciated the thought). —We noticed a price difference of the meals and wasn’t compensated for it. I guess we’re out of $5? Or was it for the sides that were given as an apology? —The location is really small by the way. I don’t recommend having a party more than 4 people or you’ll have difficulty seating. Probably better off ordering takeout. —We were denied a takeaway soup container for the leftover curry soup…that soup would have spilled in the car if we didn’t think of asking for a bag
Overall: It’s likely a relatively new establishment- We’re fans of Japanese Curry so we’ll likely be back. The server did seem really nice and the food was really good so we’ll give it another try for another...
Read moreSaw this place online and I couldn’t wait to try. The first time I ordered a tonkatsu curry rice. The curry was great, and the tonkatsu was pretty big. However, maybe because the tonkatsu pieces were big, they were dry. Dipping them in the curry helped a bit. Wifey ordered a karaage curry udon. I thought the karrage was pretty good. Just wished they had draft beer. Even if it was the basic Sapporo or Asahi one, I would have been satisfied.
The 2nd time of visit, I ordered a Buta Doria, with ground pork and mushrooms. Yes, I had to wait 20 minutes, but it was all worth it. It was a huge dish! It was enough for 2-3 meals. Plus, it was very cheesy and rich so that I couldn’t eat a lot of it either. I wanted to order the beef croquettes, but they were out so I had to pick potato croquettes instead. They were tasty and I would order again. Wifey ordered the Menchi Katsu (2 deep fried beef burger) Curry Udon, but what she really wanted to order was the Tegone Cheese in Hamburg (beef), basically cheese within a huge beef patty. We didn’t know until the food came. Oh well, there’s always next time =P
Most of the food was great so 4.5 stars. There really isn’t a curry place like this in Tri-valley anymore. Given the uniqueness of this place, rounded...
Read moreIt's a solid choice if you're craving any type of katsy curry or curry dish. You walk in and place your order around the counter. Menus are right by the register. It's open seating and you just look for a table. Self serve water as well. As soon as we ordered, our entrees came out within minutes. I think we barely sat down and the server was already walking it over to us. They are busy in that kitchen cranking out katsu!
The serving can be good for two people depending on how hungry you are. We only tried the chicken and pork katsu but they offer a number of other items as well. You can also add different toppings to spice it up. We kept it simple. Their curry is more on the watery side, but flavorful. The restaurant is a bit sterile. Not much to it. Seating was fine on a Sunday afternoon, but could be hard to find tables during a...
