Great place to get very good Mexican food at extremely good price. The have an amazing help yourself chips and salsa bar.
Watching customers at the salsa bar makes you be ashamed of human race. People get food to go and fill their bags with the salsa and chips. In the 30 minutes that I was there eating I was surprised how much greed and lack of compassion I noticed by perfectly kind looking people. A mother with two children kept feeding her kids chips and salsa...each kid got 3 packets of chips while they waited for their food. The mother was busy filling to go cups of salsa. At least 20 that I witnessed. And she kept getting chips at least 4 bowls full in addition to those they were eating while they waited for their food. She kept bringing chips and salsa to the table. When her food arrived she put in all in the bag and then went back to salsa bar. There was a young blond girl sitting at a table wsuting for her food. She was maybe in her 20s and looked so skinny that you would think she ate once a week. When I arrived she had gotten 2 trays of chips and at least 8 salsa cups. When her to go food arrived she went up to salsa Station and started scooping up more salsa cups. Then she went to chips got more and put in her bag...then she came back to salsa stole more...then went back to chips one last time. A guy got a burrito to go and packed at least 12 salsa cups. Like this one person after the next. The restaurant us very busy and the workers struggling to get to the line of people waiting to order and get their food. Normally when I eat alone I am on my phone. But the salsa station was so intriguing that for 30 minutes I watched one person after another hoard. I feel sorry for the restaurant. I wanted to talk with the owner to suggest at least they place a sign limiting customers ...but they were so busy I decided to wrote a review and hope...
Read moreRating: 5/5, a local taqueria that serves great food at affordable prices. Highlights: Al pastor tacos, super burrito, super nachos, menudo, chips and salsa (comes with any order), lengua Taqueria Los Pericos holds a special place in my heart. I've been regularly coming here since the summer of 2017. Now that we're four years down the line, I still come here every now and then.
There was a time where Los Pericos became my usual hangout spot with friends and sometimes family. At its peak, I probably came here every other day. I would always get the super burrito if I was alone, the taco plate if I was with friends. Al pastor was probably my favorite choice of meat. The food was always flavorful and filling, and the portions always a little too much for me to eat. That wasn't much of a bad thing though; sharing food with my friends was always nice.
Because we came here so often, we eventually decided that we should educate ourselves on Mexican food here---perhaps there was better. We travelled around to many of the famous taquerias in the Mission. One year we even went to Vancouver in Canada. There were some great tacos and burritos to be had, but, having been through all that, I still come back to Los Pericos. Is it something truly special? Perhaps not. There's nothing particularly special about Los Pericos that makes it head and shoulders above the rest. At the same time, everything they do is better than average; perhaps this is why I keep on coming back.
Oh yeah, and the chips...
Read moreJust OK overpriced food with smaller portion sizes and simple orders made wrong constantly.
The last time I ate here I went up a second time after my order to double check my order was correct as I had a previous bad experience, was assured it would be fine and made right....and.. it wasn't. I got the single taco plate, a to-go order. I live about two minutes away. By the time I got home (and BTW I placed my order at the restaurant) the taco was soft , soggy, and couldn't be picked up. Not to mention very little filling. That was just awful at the price. AND, when I was sick and craving mexican food, later in the evening, a '3rd times a charm' mentality kicked in so i ordered a bean, cheese and rice burrito figuring that would be made fine (priced at about $9.50), and while it was not awful, they made it pretty small and filled it mostly with cheese. Note it was NOT that busy early on a Sunday around 5:30. SOOOOOOOOO not worth the money. Spent about $25 on a bean cheese rice burrito w side of sc and a regular burrito... sorry but no. Overall it's simply OK food at an unrealistic price point for quality and portion sizes. Plus, getting VERY basic orders wrong more than once makes it not worth returning to. FINALLY I won't be going back. With how the world works today, I want to get what I pay for!...
