I believe what we had was, hopefully, a unique experience. Otherwise, the staff needs a little bit of training. We also understood that they were very busy when we arrived, but as the night went on the restaurant emptied out to the point where the service we received did not make sense. We had called ahead to see if they could do a reservation or be aware of us they did neither. Upon arrival we were greeted by a very frantic and upset FOH staff member who did not like the fact that we had a large party. We were fine with waiting, but also offered to break our party apart if it would help. She would proceed to shake her head multiple times while telling us that they couldn't seat us at any open tables at the moment due to being short staffed and can't over seat servers. It seemed that we, as the guests, were being made to find solutions rather than the restaurant. I understand this issue, and as a former restaurant server I hated when I would get oversat. However, this is not supposed to be a concern of the customer and the concern of the restaurant.
After accepting the wait, and going to sit at the bar, we were then approached by the FOH staff member and told that a table just opened up for our party. We then waited for 30 minutes before having a server come to greet the table, and placed our entire order with her to make it easy. After 35 minutes we received our drinks and appetizers. Another 30 minutes later we received our main courses. The food was delicious, and well worth the cost. However, we were told that the dishes were taking a long time due to the kitchen prioritizing online orders instead of dining room orders. After finishing and placing our empty dishes to the side, we waited an extended time before having to flag down the server for our checks.
Again, I'm really hoping that this experience was unique, but still unacceptable from a management standpoint. If you can't accept a large party, just turn them away. If you can, just tell them the wait and leave it at that. Please respect your customer's time as you want them to...
Read moreWe were in the OBX for an extended weekend, and we were fortunate to find this wonderful gem of a restaurant. This was a 5 star place for all facets of a restaurant (food, service & ambiance). Starting with their food, which was really fresh & full of flavors. Our group of 4 were able to try their vegetarian duck stir fry, thai basil stir fry, drunken noodles, as well as their green & red curries (we had dinner their 2 nights out of the weekend - that's how good the food was). Everything we had was bursting with wonderful flavors and perfectly prepared. They offer 4 levels of spiciness (mild, medium, hot, and extra hot), and they brought us some ground thai chilis because some of us wanted to add a little more hotness to our dishes. For service - they were awesome. Justin, Ashlee, and Nancy were wonderful servers, always checking in on us to make sure we had everything we needed, and seemed genuinely happy to have us as guests of the restaurant. Outstanding service here (shout out to the entire staff). And I think the manager's name was Becky - she stopped by our table both nights to make sure everything was good for us, which was very much appreciated. We will definitely have this on our list of must go back to next time we are in the OBX. It may be a little hard to find (they are in a shopping area tucked away in the back), but we were all very happy that we found this great spot. Hope others continue to visit, as well.
Edit: 10/7/23 - Went back one year later, and again ordered the mock duck (vegetarian) dish that we had so enjoyed last year, only to realize that last year, we are pretty sure that they served us the real duck dish even though we had ordered the mock duck. That was very disappointing to us. The food is still very good - very enjoyable. And this year, we are sure that we got the mock duck dish, which is what we ordered. But it was so different from last year's dish, there's no way we had the mock...
Read moreWas very excited to dine here based on the amazing reviews of the place. I’ll preface this by saying two things: 1) the food was great, no complaints there and 2) we came in at 6:30 on a Monday night with 8 people.
I did try to call earlier to make a reservation but they said they don’t accept them.
My issues with this restaurant had to do with the moment we walked in, which included being really rudely spoken to by a woman working at the front. She seemed either frustrated or upset with us being a large group and our only ask was to get seated (when they could), even offering that we could split into smaller groups if that would get us seated sooner, all the while letting them know we were perfectly fine with the wait.
Pretty quickly, we were sat, which was great! We placed all our orders, including drinks, appetizers and entrees all within the first 20 minutes of being sat.
It took over an hour to receive all of the food. The waitress came by one time to share that their online orders were keeping them busy, but provided no time or estimate to when we might receive our food.
So while the food was great, I don’t recommend this place to others for larger groups nor will our families be returning...
