Updated Review: The service and quality went down a bit after the old owner Sunny sold the place.
Not quite the same vibe now. Still okay but that homely feeling I used to get is gone.
Old 4 Star Review:
Located on the intersection of Pleasant Hill Road and Peachtree Industrial Boulevard (head down a bit on Peachtree) lies this "little" Japanese restaurant called Fyling Roll.
You can see by the number of reviews and the average score that Flying Roll is a very popular destination for Japanese food in the Johns Creek/Duluth area.
My first visit was during the lunch hours and I will say that it was packed for lunch. The restaurant itself is rather tiny and space is limited. There are a few booths along the wall that can seat most of the customers and a few separate tables that sort of bunch together in the corner. My advice is to go for a booth of you can.
Now when it comes to the food I can only speak on behalf of what I ordered and it was pretty good I would say. I ordered a Fishkatsu lunch box, which is similar to pork and chicken katsu (battered meat/fish cutlet that is pan fried). It came with soup, 4 pcs of sushi, tempura, and a side salad. Not bad for a lunch special and believe me it will fill you up. The food like most Japanese Cuisine is not heavy and you won't feel like you have to run a marathon afterwards to work it off which is nice.
I would say for a busy lunch session, the service was very good. The waitress was on her game that day and was able to assist all of our needs. Great job there!
Overall, Flying Roll deserves all the praise it's currently getting and rightfully so it's one of the better lunch spots in the area. I'm sure the dinner is just as good as well. Give it a shot if you're in the area and let me know what you think about this place too.

Read moreIve given Flying Roll so many chances, and every time I go they disappoint me. Here are my reasons.
1.) one time I walked in to pick up an order. There were no other customers in the restaurant and the owner was walking around. She never acknowledged me or made eye contact. I stood there for 5 full minutes and she never acknowledged me. I had to go back to my car and call and wait for her to pick up in order for her to speak with me so I could get my sushi.
2.) today I called and placed an order for pickup. I got a combo and asked if they could do all salmon and tuna. They said it would cost $12 extra; not to get ADDITIONAL, but just to replace the 6 other pieces of fish. To me, it seemed like they were trying to nickel and dime me.
3.) when I arrived to pick up my order at the time they told me to come, they told me it wasnât ready yet. They told me to stand by the door, and I waited an additional 20 minutes while they served other customers that walked in after me who were picking up orders.
4.) On average, the sushi is just okay. Some days, itâs really fresh, others itâs awful, and as I mentioned earlier theyâre not accommodating on customer preferences.
Iâve been so patient with this place but after multiple bad experiences, Iâll probably go to Sushi CafĂ© or Sushi Mio...
Read moreFlying Roll has quickly become my favorite spot whenever Iâm in the mood for sushi close to home. What sets this place apart is their consistently solid volcano rollâitâs always fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The menu offers a great variety of rolls and other Japanese dishes, all priced decently well, making it an excellent value for the quality you get.
Though Flying Roll is a smaller restaurant, itâs always buzzing with activity, especially during lunch hours. Despite the crowd, the service remains impeccable. The staff is friendly, attentive, and efficient, ensuring that even during peak times, youâre well taken care of.
The ambiance is cozy and inviting, making it a perfect spot for a quick lunch or a relaxed dinner. Whether youâre a sushi connoisseur or just looking for a reliable place to enjoy a good meal, Flying Roll wonât disappoint. Highly recommend giving it a try, especially for their standout...
