La Taberna Steak & Tapas Bar — Restaurant in Dumont

The food and service at this restaurant USED to me amazing. We would eat there at least 1 time a month. Now …. FORGET ABOUT IT! The quality of the food is suffering very very hard. It’s such a shame. I guess the bad economy has forced them like many other to cut back on quality and have become a NIGHTMARE SERVICE WISE. The portions have dramatically DECREASED and the service there is down right HORRENDOUS! I ordered there tonight figuring how we loved their steak sandwiches. The order was 2 steak sandwiches add Mozzarella and add mushrooms. They added it ok… but only to the bill! The quality of the steak was extremely fatty, very thin and almost nonexistent. No mozzarella cheese and No mushrooms. I figured I would just call over there just to let the manager or whoever runs it know. The guy who answered the phone straight up laughed and me and then said.. “ what do you want me to do about it” and proceeded to laugh at me . I then said you think this is funny and I said you got it boss have a great night. So I walked back to the restaurant and proceeded to sign and amended bill. I took the. $10.00 tip I left for them doing nothing back. I NEVER EVER EVER Not tip well. I get it m… They are just trying to make a living. Sorry NOT SORRY! You make a Mistake, Don’t apologize for it , laugh at me like it’s some kind of joke , and still expect to me tipped?? Nah… sorry pal. Needless to say we will NEVER BE GOING BACK THERE and anywho asks me how they are I am NOT going to hold back and I will tell them the exact truth about the quality of food the horrible hospitality they now server their customers. Sorry Mr LaTabernia but you just lost loyal customers and quiet a few potential customers will be let in on the poor overall quality/service of this establishment. Ps. I got an ad for this place and figured I would check it out. Unfortunately it's not at all what one would expect a Hispanic steak and tapas bar would be. The drinks and service were great I'll give them that but the food was very poor! The menu is a strange Italian-American-Hispanic fusion that offers Italian style pasta, American style pizza, burgers and steak and really nothing that's Hispanic at all. It's very confusing and seems like they should just commit to Hispanic style food based on the name? We ordered from the tapas menu and got tacos, empanadas and nachos fully expecting authentic Hispanic style food but was served food I can only compare to my high school cafeteria; bland, cheap and not authentic at all. There was no seasoning in the food and It really seems like there's a lack of passion for the quality of the food. Really just a lack of love for it at all. I didn't try other options on the menu but if you claim to be a Hispanic establishment I figure that those dishes would be your specialty. Therefore I can only assume the quality of the rest of the menu is piss poor. They also advertise a DJ and dancing which again I will give them the fact that a DJ was present but it was not Hispanic music at all more like cheesy 80s, 90s throwbacks and no room to dance. Update - food is great, had dinner in the dining room and then moved to the bar. Carolina was great. Music was good. Invited to brunch and to the place for the first time. Nice decorated location and the music wasn't overbearing. Perfect. Although there were about 6 hot plates, (pork, tilapia, chicken, steak ( pretty damn good) pasta and rice/beans) they all had good taste but unfortunately a little cold. However I was more disappointed in that this was a Spanish place and not a lot of Spanish food in the brunch. Where was the chorizo, and shrimps alajillo? Maybe a scaled down paella. In speaking with Ivan, there would be a rotating brunch menu and i would have to check Instagram. But I don't have Instagram. The mimosas weren't included in the tab, and the brunch alone was about 29 dollars. The restaurant had it's movement with people and the staff attentive. I would venture there again but just on a regular night to take advantage of it's 20 dollar bucket for 5 beers. Even imports!

Update - came for dinner and all the food was great. Carolina was exceptional and even though she had a mask, you can tell she always had a smile. Ate in the dining room and moved to bar. Music was good and eventually spent about 5 total hours there. But you also need good companions....
