I went here because I wanted to relive part of my childhood. My parents would buy me Brown's Chicken for dinner when I was a kid, and I fondly remember their tasty biscuits. When I arrived at this location I almost turned back. The strip mall behind the store had multiple empty spaces up for lease, the parking lot of the Brown's Chicken was practically empty, and the illuminated neon sign up front read "OWN'S CHICKEN" because the light bulbs for the letters B and R had burnt out. When I walked in there was nobody inside except for me, two of the employees in the back, and one lowlife playing video poker. At this point I was very skeptical to say the least. The dining area was abandoned while I stood there regretting my decision to stay (this was around 6:30 pm btw). After five minutes of waiting the girl working the register finally walked up to me to take my order. The whole time I was there nobody else walked through the door. The only other customers besides me were two people who ordered via the drive thru. I waited another five minutes for my food. As I waited, I looked around the place and saw the outdated fryers from seemingly 1972 that they were using to cook my food. The whole vibe of the place was depressing. Everything from the look of the menu, to the interior design of the restaurant, to the design of their logo seemed very outdated. It was as if I somehow time traveled back to the 1990s. Once I received my food I quickly left the sketchy looking restaurant and took it home to eat. The food that I had once nostalgically remembered as being very comforting had now tasted quite mediocre. Not bad, don't get me wrong, but just serviceable to say the best. The biscuit was dry, the cole slaw was mostly just diced cabbage, and the chicken was also a little dry but crispy and tasty too. For the price I paid ($11) I can decisively say it wasn't worth it. You can get better fried chicken at Popeye's for half the price. Brown's Chicken, once a Chicagoland fast food icon, now a failing restaurant chain that's struggling...
Read moreI picked up an order of chicken and mac & cheese on Dec 5th, 2022 from here. Unfortunately have to say this was the absolutely WORST product quality and product flavor meal I have ever purchased. First allow me to say the service personnel were the absolute best. Extremely friendly and helpful and that itself was a wonderful experience. It ended there however after returning home and trying the meal. The chicken was simply put dried out - had been in the heat lamp WAY too long. Looked good on the outside but pealing off the breading you can visually see the chicken meat itself was dried up and darkened. Not the first time I've had that and could have been OK to some degree but the larger issue was the entire breading and flavoring was completely WITHOUT any flavor whatsoever. At most it simply tasted like the grease it was fried in. No spices, no salt, no flavoring of any kind like it was colored flower and that's it. Very strange and very, very bad. It didn't stop there. The mac and cheese was equally without any flavor or appeal. It's mac and cheese we're talking about here and it should at least taste like cheese but it didn't. Like eating plain pasta with no sauce. Poor, poor.
Disappointed and won't be returning...
Read moreSo... I pride myself on not writing poor reviews based on just one experience, as I think it's wrong for people to do. However, I've now tried this location three times and I gotta be honest- Each time is worse than the next. The service and the employees are awesome and friendly, and my food order is always correct and hot. However, my food is also always dry, tastes like burnt grease, and awful. The chicken itself is dry, bland, with greasy breading. The gizzards tasted like wads of breading that were impossible to chew. My fiancé got the mac and cheese and didn't eat more than one bite of the fluorescent orange goo, which tasted like salty wax. The mashed potatoes tasted like cardboard covered in brown water and the biscuits- You guessed it, dry and bland :( 2 stars for the kind employees and their breaded mushrooms- Which are delicious. The okra wasn't bad either. Sorry guys- skip this one and...
