Lonni's sandwiches, etc. — Restaurant in Dunedin

Lonnis has been one of my favorite places to get a gourmet sandwich without breaking the bank! Lunch break, yes! Event food, absolutely!

Yesterday we had our sons fourth birthday and instead of the usual hot dogs and hamburgers or even catering from Publix we decided to cater from lonnis, and it was a huge hit from all the guest! Why did we do this? Well the sandwiches are a great size for kids and adults and are dressing being in pool and sun all day and are very unique from a typical sandwich tray you get! We did 3 trays of assorted sandwiches, a few pounds of pasta salad, a few of the wild rice and a few of the chicken salad and with 25ish adults and 15+ plus kids there was nothing left over! And this small business was so happy to accommodate us on a day they are normally closed!

Haven't ordered from Lonni's in years and thought of them today because I remembered good experiences in the past. So, I ordered a chicken salad sandwich on wild rice bread. Well, to say how disappointed I was when I saw my sandwich would be a gross understatement. 2 thick slices (probably 1 & 1/2") of bread with a very thin (1/2" at best) schmear of chicken salad in between and not even edge to edge. I thought "Wow, I pretty much just paid almost $9 for 2 giant slices of bread...LOL". I am sorry but that's just not okay. I wish I had taken a picture to show everyone what you charge for a $9 sandwich but honestly I just didn't think about it at that moment. But I know I'll never spend another penny at your place and I'll tell anyone I know who even think of giving you...

The Sunny Bird is the best sandwich I have ever eaten! The staff is friendly and the food is to die for. I have been eating at this local gem for for over ten years, yet the quality exceeds my expectations every time.

Update: I finally branched out and tried something new: Curried Tropical Chicken Salad. It was mouth-wateringly delicious. I told the chef that I normally get a Sunny Bird and asked about the Curry Chicken. She encouraged me to try a sample and said she'd hate for anyone to buy a sandwich they didn't like.
