Starlite Cafe — Restaurant in Dunedin

Unfortunately I have to give at least 1 star to post this. Well, where to start with the worse experience I have had at any restaurant in my life not to say in Dunedin! I've lived here for a few years now and will never support this business again! My friend and I stopped in to have breakfast this morning and the food was horrible. I had an opened face roast beef sandwich and my friend had breakfast. both of the meals were far from par not to say pretty high prices. The waitress asked if I didn't like the food and I said no I did not and, she handed me the bill and walked away. I continued to pay the bill with nothing said and walked out. I called a couple hours later to speak with the owner to explain my situation and he got extremely rude with me and then decided to hang up on me. I went straight to the restaurant immediately to speak with him and explained to him the situation. He got extremely defensive and refused to speak with me about the matter then continued to say, "you didn't like the food because I am not a lesbian." Now this is quite an accusation to make since he knows nothing about myself or my life orientation. I have never seen this person in my life nor know anything about him or his life. I WILL NEVER GIVE THIS BUSINESS MY TIME OR MONEY EVER AGAIN AND ADVISE AGAINST ANYONE...

I ordered a burger cooked medium. It came within a few minutes, and I said, “Wow, that was fast!” I took a look at the burger which was gray, and then checked to see how cooked it was. Well, it was “fast” because it was raw. I gave a slight wave to the owner/waitress and said, “My burger is raw. Can you have him cook it more please?”

The cook/owner sent it back to me a few minutes later. It was cooked more, but it was still an icky gray color. I took a bite and it tasted off as if spoiled. The waitress came and asked me how it was. I wrinkled my nose a bit, and she said, “Oh you don’t like it”. I said, “It tastes funny”. She answered unapologetically, “We just bought that meat”. So there I was stuck with a pretty gross tasting, gray, burger. I left the food, got up, and said, “May I have my check?”. That’s right, I couldn’t eat the food, and she never asked me if I wanted to get something else, or even offered to discount the icky gray burger. She just charged me the $9.00+ and I left. LESSONED LEARNED!...

I tend to favor local diners over chain restaurants so, being extremely hungry this morning, decided to stop in at the Starlite. One big plus is that they serve breakfast from open to close. Great. Service was friendly and quick. Both breakfast and lunch menus are varied and offer plenty to choose from. Prices are reasonable. This morning I decided to try biscuits and gravy with a couple of eggs & sausage patties.... The sausage gravy was different, I’m from the south and a bit picky about sausage gravy & biscuits. My suggestion would be to ask to taste the gravy before placing your order. I deducted one star because the biscuit was definitely not fresh, regardless of the gravy, the biscuit was not fresh.
