If I could leave negative stars, I would! I can't speak for the food because we never made it inside the door. There was a truck with a long trailer completely blocking the one entrance from the road and also obstructing access to the immediate parking in front. To the left of the building on the side by the other entrance from the road, is a very clearly marked handicapped parking space with yellow paint on the ground of the handicapped image. I am disabled and have a handicapped parking placard so parked in the clearly marked spot. An older man yelled at me as we were about to walk inside that I needed to move my vehicle and couldn't park there. I made several attempts to point out the marked handicapped spot and this man kept telling over me while I was talking that I needed to move and that was not a parking spot. He identified himself that this was "his building". It was also very noticeable that he was being very friendly to other people outside of the restaurant while being extremely hostile and aggressive towards my friend and myself which left us questioning why he was so hostile towards us, but so kind and friendly towards the other people. The only difference between my friend and I and the other patrons was that they were all caucasian while my friend is Hispanic/ African American and I am native American/Hispanic. I hate to even think that the reason this man, the owner was so aggressive towards us was racially motivated, but based on his interaction with the caucasion people outside and is being the only ones not caucasian and parked in a very clearly marked handicapped spot, it left both of us feeling very unwelcomed and that it was because we were being discriminated against. We left and went Dien the road to the Iron horse grill for lunch instead where we got amazing food and even more...
Read moreGreat lunch place in Pine Mt. Georgia right outside of Calloway Gardens. We always stop at the Whistling Pig when hiking in FDR Park or camping in Pine Mt. After a 7 mile hike on the Pine Mt. Trail, we stopped at the Whistling Pig for some much needed lunch (these guys are only open from 1O - 3). We both had the BBQ sandwich combo with fries and Tea. Holy cow was our food good! They have three kinds of homemade BBQ sauce; a mustard based sauce, a white sauce, and a hot sauce. All three are excellent. The fries were also delicious. The Whistling Pig is the definition of local, I swear the owner and staff know everybody that comes into the restaurant. BTW, they have other things besides BBQ; hamburgers, meat and three and the most glorious looking homemade cakes, pies and pork rinds. If you are ever in Pine Mt. at lunchtime, do yourself a favor and stop by the Whistling Pig, you will be...
Read moreWhenever we visit Callaway Gardens, I make sure to stop into the Whistling Pig to grab some BBQ. The meals are generous & reasonably priced, very tasty too! When you unwrap a sandwich & can practically taste the smokiness just from the aroma of the meat, that's some good BBQ. The day I ordered, the daily special was spaghetti, side salad, toast & drink for $9 - that's cheaper than a meal from McDonald's & easily 10xs better! They also have fresh made pork rinds & do NOT miss the desserts! I'm not sure what the cake is called but it's in the fridge - layers of yellow cake with cool whip-like frosting with hints of crushed pineapple & mandarin orange. Sooooooo good 😋 Be prepared for a full, busy parking lot & a little bit of a wait. Customers & staff are super friendly so no shortage of people to chit-chat with...
