First off, these hotels were built decades ago, so expect some age and small issues. That said, the room we stayed in was ok.
Pros. It was very clean. I'm kind of a neat freak and carry cleaning supplies, small broom and dustpan etc when driving and staying at a hotel overnight. I didn't need any of that. The bedding appeared fresh and clean and I saw no signs of bed bugs. The tv worked well although there were limited channels. They have several outlets for charging devices and the fridge and microwave worked well. Didn't try the coffee pot, we don't drink coffee. The mattress was very comfortable and the overall decor was not bad at all. I never saw any bugs at all, even when I stripped the bedding back and lifted the mattress, which I was hoping I would not after reading some of the older reviews. .
Cons: I was not happy that they charged a security deposit for the Jacuzzi room without disclosing it to me or my wife, neither by phone or when we paid face to face..... I have never had to pay a deposit for a Jacuzzi room, so I was not expecting it. They just took it upon themselves to do so. They did credit it back a few hours after check out, but that's not the point. No charge should be made without the customer being made aware. The shower head came apart when I was trying to adjust it, but it screwed right back together and it did work. The only other issue is the ac. While it did get the temps down after awhile, I had to keep it on 60 to get it to 69 in the room. I like it cold, but as it was it did make it comfortable for everyone else.
There is also several restaurants close by, and a Family Dollar next door. The pizza place next door was also good, and they have cold drafts that hit the spot after a hot day walking and seeing the sights!!!Overall, for an older hotel that cheap, that close to Callaway, you do get (in my opinion) your money's worth and I will stop here again when I come...
Read moreThe most valid reason why you shouldn't book here is that all the other issues I experienced while staying here weren't resolved during my stay and ended in a very unbelievably unprofessional manner with the staff when I checked out. When I got to my room, I noticed the phone wasn't working and wouldn't dial out. So I couldn't call the front desk. I went back to the front and asked about it, and they didn't give an explanation. They just called the room and told me the phone was ringing. So, I asked to move to a room on the 1st floor and when I moved there, I had the same problem with the phone. Also, there were flies, roaches, and spiders in the room. On top of the made bed there was a cigarette but. When I pulled down the top blanket and comforter there were ashes on the pillowcase. The toilet in the bathroom didn't look like it had been cleaned thoroughly if at all. I accidentally locked myself out of my room and had to go to the front for another one but when I rang the service bell, no one answered. After twenty minutes of waiting and ringing, the bell was switched off which means that someone not only heard it but actively ignored it. I didn't have a phone or car keys so I had to knock on a guest's door and ask them to call the front desk for me. After several calls they finally answered and came to the door. Instead of apologizing, they yelled at me for bothering them. The next morning, before I checked out, the water was shut off. When I came to ask for the name of the owner, the same woman who had been unbelievably rude to me, refused to give me that information. I told her how unprofessional she was to which she replied yelling that I had to leave or she would call the police. I told her I would welcome that because of how hostile she was acting. No one should ever stay here. I can't believe that any place would be open if such things were...
Read moreThis really isn't the best or the worst place I have ever stayed in. But, I have come here around 3-4 times in the last year and it has steadily gone down hill.
The reviews talk about the owners being rude. To be honest, they can be - but I also think there is a language barrier/translation issue. Also, they are automatically on the defensive anytime you talk to them. Again, this might be because of the language/nationality difference. So, know that there could be more to this than simply 'they are rude!'
The rooms are OK. There is actually two different parts to this Hotel. There is the rooms that are connected to the entrance and then there is a complex to the left of the entrance. The rooms attached to the entrance and the lobby are actually pretty nice. The rooms in the other complex are hit and miss. Some do smell like smoke. I think they flipped smoking rooms to non smoking and really didn't do a thorough cleaning to remove the smell. The room I stated in 3 weeks ago looked like someone had kicked the door in and broken the safety lock/latch. Also, the door wouldn't close all the way. You had to use the door lock it to keep it closed.
I want to say they are working on remodeling the complex - but I am not sure. Some rooms look nicer than the others and you can tell they are updating some things.
I don't agree with some people saying the managers are running the place into the ground. But, it is obvious that they are running a very small budget - so it will not be as nice as some other locations.
Personally, I don't have many issues with this location. The door was annoying but could be worked around and our room did not smell - for example. But, I have heard the complaints from other guests the times I...
