Jimmy's Famous Hot Dogs — Restaurant in Durham

UPDATED 09 June 2024: Today I decided to try something other than the catfish sandwich. Why not try Jimmy's famous hot dogs? As expected, I was not disappointed. It's made with Nathan's hot dogs. I suggest getting it all-the-way!

UPDATED August 23, 2023: I probably sound like a broken record, but the food here is delicious! Fish sandwiches are the best around. Give it a try, your won't be disappointed!

UPDATED October 16, 2022: I can't overstate how great the fish sandwiches are! As usual, the fish and french fries were served piping hot.

I really need to go back and try something else on the menu. I'm sure it will be as good as the fish!

Jimmy's may be known for their famous hot dogs but you've got to try their fried catfish sandwich!! The fish was perfectly cooked and served fresh and hot!

When we went, Jimmy's wasn't crowded and we were served quickly. Food is prepared as you order so it's not sitting under a warmer waiting for a customer.

Although not required at this time (October 16, 2021) masks are encouraged.

Will eat here again and won't hesitate to try Jimmy's other...

You can't say much for the decor, except it's an old Waffle House. Despite the diner type feel of my visit, the food actually wasn't that bad. Visiting Durham, North Carolina, to see an old friend, I stopped in about ten minutes before closing time.

Ordering the Jimmy's Famous Hot Dog Combo, I would eat back at my hotel while catching up on e-mail, etc. 2 hot dogs "All the Way," french fries and a drink. A quick order - I had driven ten hours from South Florida and wasn't really paying attention to the menu. I didn't realize until later that they were turkey rather than beef. With that said, the dogs weren't bad.

I met Billy - apparently one of the owners. Nice enough guy and we spoke for a few minutes while waiting on my order. When returning to my hotel a few moments later, I found that my combo order had 3 hot dogs rather than 2.

Not a bad fast food experience. All the way hot dogs weren't bad and no complaint about the french fries either. Take out bag had napkins and other condiments. Soft drink was a pour your own after being handed a cup.

Convenient location to major highways and plenty of hotels. I would visit again if ever returning to the area.

The food and prices here are unbeatable! I’ve been here several times now and have never been disappointed with the food (which is diner/ grease joint style, so if that’s not your thing, then this review isn’t for you). Highlights: the fried catfish is, no lie, the BEST fried catfish I’ve ever had. The banana pudding is so good (this coming from a super picky banana pudding addict). The banana pudding milkshake is truly next level, they use the banana pudding to make the milkshake. Lemonade - their lemonade is homemade and it’s amazing. I have to give this place 5 stars for all of that. The only (somewhat) negative about this place is the young guy with dreads who is often working the counter. He’s usually just really indifferent, which is fine. But occasionally I think he be sucking on those lemons instead of lemonade, and is in a bad mood even when you’re trying to be super friendly back, which dampens the vibe.
