I almost never spend my time writing a bad review on a business. I'd rather give kudos to those that exceeded my expectations. But after dinner at Los Tres in Durham last night, I had to share my feedback.
Where do I begin? This place must have changed management since the last time I was there. The previous few times I've been there, I was happy with the food and service.
This time, the food was dreadful. The quacamole was SO SALTY I could barely eat it. If they did it accidentally, that needs to be corrected. If it was on purpose, I guess it was done to make up for the lack of flavor in the ingredients. Without the salt, the avocado, onion, tomatoes and jalapeno didn't have much flavor.
The salsa was basically just tomato sauce out of a can with very few veggies in it. It was also salty, bland, and any store-bought jarred salsa or picante I've had in my life, was 100 times better.
My daughter and I ordered soft tortilla tacos, ground beef and shredded chicken. The beef was food processed into a mushy paste and while that is "ok", there was very little of it in the taco and again, as was everything else, bland. The shredded chicken, you guessed it, had no flavor to it according to my daughter and son, who ordered enchiladas.
The tacos were luke warm at best and I have no idea what type of lettuce was in them. It was limp and leafy. I expect it to be shredded with some crisp to it. Also, the scarce amount of cheese that was on them was SHAMEFUL! One of my daughter's tacos had just a few shreds of it on one part of the taco.
One of the reasons why we went with basic "tacos", by the way, was because everything else was SO EXPENSIVE and didn't look worth the money to me.
As for the service... it was very very frustrating for the entire meal. A HUGE communication gap, where several times we tried to tell her that we wanted the Regular size of quac, resulted in her bringing the Grande size to us ($13.99 instead of $5.99).
And, for three of us, she only brought one tiny bowl of salsa, half filled. When she came back we asked for another. And when she came back again, we asked for another and she looked down and tipped up the one bowl where we had a bit left and gave us sort of a grunt / moan, as if to tell us that we still had some left and had enough. It was so obvious... Towards the end of the meal when my son asked a fourth bowl, she didn't answer, turned away, let out the grunt / moan again and walked away. She brought it, but wasn't happy about it. All of this is something that has never happened to us at other Mexican restaurants.
Ordering was very difficult, again because of the communication gap.
Lastly, during the end of the ordering process I was having a hard time picking out my 2nd a-la-cart item. The server was impatient and even my kids noticed that she was clicking her fingernails on the table. Very rude and unprofessional.
While I hate to post such a negative review, I want others to know. For $52 we'd have gotten a MUCH better meal at a fast food joint. In fact after the quac issue, my daughter and I both wanted to walk across the parking lot to a long time favorite...
Read moreI walked in yesterday evening there’s a sign to the right that states please wait to be seated. So when I walked in, there were 3 waiters who actually walked past me gave me eye contact didn’t say anything not a hello, not a please wait, someone will be with you momentarily nothing. There was some people off to this little entrance that looks like a kitchen area. They came in and out looked at me. No one greeted me. No one said anything. So I proceeded to sit down on the bench for about 10 minutes still not one person greeted me nor asked if I needed anything. Then this lady walks in and two of the three waiters that was walking back-and-forth greeted the lady and asked did she need help. I’m sitting there in pure shock and disbelief because I sat on the bench for 10 minutes receive eye contact from several staff members and I didn’t even get a hello , but the zealousness they showed the lady who walked in was just mine blowing. I guess I had an invisible cloak on. Now, I really don’t like to speak on race, but I could not help but to wonder did my race play a major factor in the level of respect/non-servicing that I received versus the servicing, the lady received or acknowledgment shall I say. At first I was frustrated in disbelief then I felf sad then I was overcome with hurt beyond measure. There was not rational reason why they didn’t acknowledge me (ethnic) versus her (the Caucasian). I did get to speak to the manager or owner name Daniel he did apologize and said he would speak with his staff about that. I just left out after speeding with him. Why does this happen so often to people of color to be made to feel less worthy? why do people feel like we are subpar? Why do people feel they can disrespect us soo freely? I’ve been in the service business for over 30 years and there is no legitimate reason why I should have had this experience. This is a meere reflection of the kind of leadership this staff is being trained under to think that it is ok to do that. I feel this was a blatant display of the true level in which the staff feel about people of color (blacks) in my opinion. I would not give these people 1 cent of my money nor do I recommend to spend money where you are not respected or at the least worthy to be acknowledged. Daniel I know you remember me. Let this be a learning experience for your company to grow from and become better because that was...
Read moreI went in a couple of days ago to dine in with my family and was craving authentic mexican food. Apart from the low quality of food we had our service was decent but that’s not what I came on here to review.
What I came to discuss is the very unprofessional and inappropriate behavior of the manager in charge the day I went. My family and I watched her as she followed around the employees, yelling at them and having a full disregard of us —the customers. It seemed as if she was scolding her own children, mind you these are grown adults that are working and as the waiters passed by they visibly looked stressed and uncomfortable. It was a very uncomfortable experience and my husband asked our server “Are you okay?” and they replied as if they were concerned “Yes, don’t worry” I felt second hand embarrassment for these poor workers, I personally did not have any issue with my service but seeing how this lady was running around looking crazy, yelling at these workers for what seemed to me no reasonable explanation for it to be right in front of us. It was like she wanted to embarrass them. She has no professional etiquette whatsoever and to me it’s embarrassing for a business to leave such a person in charge with no respect for her employees or consideration.
I usually don’t take the time out my day to write a review about any place but this was absolutely unacceptable and I can’t stand for that type of behavior and abuse against anybody. My family and I will not be coming back to this place and that lady left a very unforgettable impression on us. Find better...
