Mellow Mushroom Durham — Restaurant in Durham

I have never written a review before but I was so put off by this place I had too. I would give this place 3 stars but the service was just too bad. So we reserved a group of people for the lunch time hours and they lost our reservation. So we had to wait for them to put tables together for our group. Then there were about 14 of us and they only had 1 server serving us. I don't know if they were under employed or what but she definetly should not have been alone serving 14 people. The server was the best part of the experience. When other people in the resturant actually attempted to "help" her, they were very rude to the table and literally sat the food off to the side and didn't even serve us leaving the food to our server. The food was ok someones order got messed up but the server fixed that pretty swiftly to the best of her ability. Although she seemed a bit over whelmed by us I would say she handled us really well. This was the first time I've eaten here in years but with my experience I would say I didn't miss much. If you want better service and pizza pie pushers around the corner from there...

A friend made me aware of a great, savory vegetarian option at Mellow mushroom, teriyaki tempeh hoagie with either chips or roasted potatoes as your side dish. Great choice! This location in American Tobacco campus is a great option, before or after the game or when downtown for lunch or dinner on a non- Durham Bulls game. Day/evening. The pizzas are great for families and the atmosphere is great for groups, flying solo, or couples. You know what to expect from Mellow mushroom. This location has the added benefit of close to DPAC, DBAP, and historic ATC. Service at this Mellow Mushroom is friendly, professional and prompt. A recent visit made in the midst of a DPAC, and Durham Bulls game increased my review from 4 to 5 stars. The reason for the increase in stars comes down to how I was greeted and treated by the young professional hostess. The restaurant was super crowded yet this young hostess greeted me warmly, assessed my needs and placed my order promptly and managed my expectations around wait time. Solid 5 stars here for sure. To be honest I am generally not a big fan of chain restaurants and tend to explore more unique locations. This particular venue is definitely outstanding and here is why: There were 11 of us who just strolled in around lunch time on a beautiful Thursday afternoon. They pulled tables together, smiled and sat us within 3 minutes. Drink orders were quickly taken and quickly delivered. Lunch orders were taken, I ordered the House Special pizza and requested no onions and to add jalapenos, they said no problem. Everyone's order came out quickly and within 3 minutes of each other, they were all correct including my no onions add jalapenos pizza. Drinks were continuously topped off and we were asked if we needed anything and that if everything was okay. Everyone loved their food, my was piled high with goodies and more than I could eat! (They provided a to-go box for those needing them). They are located right next to the Durham Bulls ball field and pardon the pun but they "Hit it out of the park". Please give them a try!...
