I had really been looking forward to trying Press - I am nothing if not a brunch girly, and I love crepes - but the experience ended up being quite disappointing. My wife and I came in on a Monday morning for breakfast; it was doing steady business, but not packed. A waiter came out to speak to us very quickly, gave us menus, explained that we could order via QR code from the table or through her, etc. We opted to order through the waiter, because we were having some issues with the online order form and the paper menu not lining up (one drink, for instance, said on the menu that it was made with oatmilk, but the online order form had oatmilk as an upcharge). I ordered the Cinnamon Plum Orange Tea Latte and the Turkey Brie crêpe, my wife ordered a cappuccino and the Southern Style crêpe.
The food itself was middling at best; the portion sizes are large but it's very quantity over quality. The Southern Style had some flavor to it, not amazing but certainly edible. The Turkey Brie was exceedingly bland; no seasoning at all on the turkey, and the cranberry sauce tasted like canned grocery store cranberry sauce. My partner's cappuccino was fine, but I didn't even receive a drink until halfway through our food, at which point they brought the wrong thing (some sort of brewed tea, rather than a tea latte). When I pointed out it wasn't what I had ordered, the server who had brought it (who wasn't out original server) was very tense, immediately seeking to put the issue on me ("what did you MEAN to order?"), despite the fact that we had ordered through a waiter, who had asked what milk I wanted for the latte (even though the menu said it was with oatmilk) and had looked at the menu item I pointed to when I said that it said oatmilk. Yet a third waiter came out a few minutes later and confirmed that they were going to fix the drink. About 15 minutes later I still had not gotten a drink (though my partner had gotten a second cappuccino, ordered in the interim). When a waiter finally came by (I honestly don't know if this was one of the previous ones - by this point there had been so many), we ended up telling her we wanted to just cancel the drink, (because we'd been done with our food for a while, my wife was halfway through her second cappuccino, and we just wanted to leave at this point). The waiter was shockingly surly about the fact that we just wanted to leave and didn't want to wait any further for a drink we'd been waiting half an hour for, and while she did ultimately cancel the drink and ring us up, she did so in clipped tones while glowering at us like we were the problem. There was no attempt at all to be conciliatory or offer any kind of customer service. It really soured an already sour experience.
The general atmosphere of the place could use some work. It has what I would call a "fast fancy" vibe - food taking inspiration from haute cuisine, Parisian cafe sort've look, fancy cocktails, etc - but the vibe falls apart because of the way they operate. You don't ever have a consistent waiter - it's just whoever gets to things at any given time - making it difficult to have any kind of sense of continuity to your service and creating a sense of chaos to the dining experience. Our first server was very nice, and other than the issue with the wrong drink getting ordered I have no complaints - honestly the whole experience might have been better if we'd had that server the whole time. The rest of the service ranged from forgettable to, in the case of that last server, outright unpleasant.
All in all, cannot recommend this...
Read moreWent yesterday to have breakfast and we all are very disappointed for our first visit. Table for five was gonna take us 1 hour and 45 minutes to be seated. Asked if my son could have something to eat before we seat and was told us only if we have a take out so we choose that option (at first, that was no problem at all). Website said that the food was going to take around 30 minutes to get ready, but unfortunately we had to wait more. When I went inside ask about the food the girl who was at the cashier was completely mean and rude, could have used better words to talk to me, not calling me as a “bro” when I said that I haven’t received any text messages about my food yet. So I went outside and wait for more 10 minutes and went back inside again. Food was ready on the time but it was in a shelter that I didn’t know about, then when I asked why I haven’t received the text the same girl told me that they were to busy to send the text messages and I was supposed to wait (restaurant wasn’t that busy, it has bunch of open tables inside and outside). We were seated outside to have our breakfast but again, unfortunately all the food came out wrong. My husband has onion allergy and he literally asked for no onions on his order, but it came with onions anyways. Also we ordered my sons crepe with the jam on the side and no powdered sugar, it came all in and powdered sugar all over the crepe. My friend ordered a steak crepe and it comes with no steak. Not worth the money, everything was wrong, from the beginning to the end. But what makes me more uncomfortable was the way that the...
Read moreNew FAVORITE breakfast place!!! Our server was Logan and he did a great job explaining the menu to us since it was our first time. My husband wanted to add steak to his traditional hash brown waffle and Logan did not know if it was allowed and he went and asked. The flank steak was extra but totally worth it. Logan checked back multiple times on us and removed plates as we were finished even though the he had tons of tables. Seriously great service. The food… oh my goodness EVERYTHING was DELICIOUS!!! So AMAZING!! I had the garden crepe and the veggies were grilled and cooked perfect, the eggs were also cooked well and not dry. The savory crepe was so tasty and all of the ingredients were great quality and so flavorful. My husband loved the traditional hash brown waffle with the steak on top. The waffle hash brown was crunchy not greasy and the eggs were also perfectly cooked. We shared the Nutella and bananas for dessert and it was so gooooood, not too sweet. I also ordered the caramel latte and it was perfect. We were so excited for our food that I totally forgot to get pictures. No worries we are going back soon and I will add pics.
We did have to wait 30 minutes but totally worth it we sat by the Durham Bulls baseball field and the hostess texted us once our table was ready. Plus it was totally worth the wait. If you are trying to go and be sat right away you might want to call ahead and see how long the wait is. They do not take...
