I really hate to negative reviews about a business but I hope reading this will help the restaurant improve. As an avid sushi lover it takes a lot to get me to call it quits but I am simply not coming back here again.
The first issue is the online ordering. The descriptions do not tell you what is included in the item you ordered (i.e no mention of soup/salad etc just a mysteriously high price). This has led to us ordering WAY more food than we needed because we didn't know about all the additional things they were putting in, and is highly frustrating because that meant I had spent $ I didn't need to to round out the meal. Second, they don't let you know when your order is ready. I've waited in my car for almost an hour for the "your order is ready" text and nothing. Then the one time I say ok well it was SUPPOSED to be ready 15 min ago, I'll just go inside and check--it's not ready because they're in a dinner rush.
I thought dine-in would be better but I've had problems with that too. I asked the server to recommend a sweet sake and not only did he have no idea what any of them tasted like, whoever he went to ask for a suggestion picked one that was not at all sweet. I could only stomach one sip before my stomach threatened to heave (I have stomach issues that get triggered if the alcohol is too strong). And of course they refused to comp it because it had been opened, nevermind that it sat there untouched the entire meal. Also my friend got food poisoning when our first choice of restaurant fell through and Sakura was the only other nearby restaurant we could both have.
It's such a shame because I love sushi and they're so close...
Read moreOn February 1st at 6:45pm with my disabled grandpa we arrived and were very excited to come eat here. We love japanese the first mistake they made was sitting us in the very far corner where they do cooking hibachi shows. The distance between the seats from the square hibachi cooking table and our tiny corner table was so small. My grandpa has a cane. Though we did not know they were going to do a hibachi show we didnt complain. My grandpa went to the bathroom and came back and could not safely manage his way between the hibachi cooking table and the crowd of people that were sitting there to our corner table. He almost fell trying to get to our spot...he had a huge long obvious cane with him. The people sitting on the other side of the corner tables left because they noticed we had no high chair that they should have offered us. So my daughter was in a regular chair at 11 months I had to keep a hand on her but eventually I just held her the entire meal. When our meal came i had no silverware or chopsticks. I requested it alongside mentioning that they got my rice order wrong... It took them 20 minutes to give me a fork by that time my food was cold. The woman came back to give us "free" peanuts for our trouble. By the end of our meal..they offered to give me fried rice for free. Which is nice and I am thankful but the experience here for my disabled grandfather and my kid was not a good one after reading this it is your choice whether you would like to eat here. The food is good but the service was horrible..and so are...
Read moreGood interior. Good food selection. There are a number of Japanese restaurants in this part of Eagle/Meridian/Boise, and I'd say that this restaurant's Katsudon is the best one (in this area) I've tried yet. Not that it's the best Katsudon I've ever tasted in my life, but presentation-wise, at least this restaurant tries it best to make the meal more appealing. I usually prefer my Katsudon to be balanced when it comes to the ratio of the rice and the sauces dripping from the meat on top. However, the meal I got, the rice serving wasn't that generous, so what happened was there was too much broth/sauce on the meal, making the rice slightly more moist than it has too. Still, the Katsudon tasted good overall.
I usually order Katsudon (or Gyudon) because it's the most recognizable Japanese rice bowl meal for me and that's a meal you can easily order when you don't want to eat raw fish from the sushi selection.
If you don't want Katsudon, you can easily order an appetizer plus fried rice combo and this restaurant has good fried batter meat offerings, including a battered fish that you don't normally see in other Japanese restaurants in this area.
What prevents me from giving this restaurant a five star is that, even if the food selection is great, I don't think they serve ramen here, and I don't think Udon is enough as substitute. Though I guess if you're not a ramen person, you wouldn't mind...
