Dairy Queen (Treat) — Restaurant in East Bay Township

Would give less stars if I could. My family and I had a horrible experience with this location. We had ordered a custom birthday cake for my niece’s 6th birthday back in February 20th of 2025, for a pickup date of March 14th 2025. That’s 22 days. We received confirmation email and all.

We went to pick up this cake on the 15th of March 2025 as we had to delay our party. Before leaving to pick it up, we called this location to make sure they had our cake. This is where things got frustrating. They said that they didn’t have our cake. Despite it being ordered 22 days ago.

When arriving to this location, we were greeting by one single teenage employee (playing on his phone.) we had showed him our confirmation email saying that it would be ready the day before, and he went to check in the back to see if our cake was there. He returned stating that there was no cake back there for our order. We asked about having it made that day and were willing to delay the party yet again in order to have the correct cake for my niece. He stated that it wouldn’t be ready until “late in the day” on the 16th because the “cake lady” is only there in the morning. Essentially meaning that it wasn’t an option for us. I questioned him as to if there was a manager present or if there was a number I could call for this “cake lady”. I wasn’t given a number, and told that there was no management on duty.

We opted to get a premade cake (different shape, size, and color than the cake my niece had designed for an hour with her mother) because it was our only option. Upon going to the display case I glanced into the back of the store. To see another employee sitting on a bucket playing on his phone.

I left my number to be contacted by a manager or this “cake lady” and have received nothing back. Not a call, voicemail, email, nothing.

Moral of the story: If you want consistency, good work ethic, or to be served by anybody other than unenthusiastic teenagers. This is not the location to do so.

And if you want things done by the time that you have confirmed with the location over three weeks in advance, I wouldn’t count this location to do...

We visited the Dairy Queen in Traverse City (1660 US HWY 31 N) on July 6, 2022 after playing miniature golf and tried to redeem our Blizzard Free-Quency punch card for a free 12 oz Blizzard. The workers would not accept it. I emailed DQ headquarters on July 6th to ask how to contact the franchise owner as their website indicates that is the way to solve problems encountered at DQ locations. DQ Headquarters contacted me on July 14 and asked me to confirm the franchise location, I sent them the location, and they indicated they would contact the franchise owner and let them know that I wanted to be contacted. As of August 2nd I had not been contacted by the franchise owner. I contacted DQ Headquarters again. They apologized and said that they would once again let the franchise owner know that I wanted to be contacted. Today is August 15th and I have not received a response from the franchise owner.

It was frustrating enough to be denied use of the punch card but not being contacted by the franchise owner to explain why we were denied use of the punch card makes me upset. Next time we want ice cream we will take our business to a...

I visited this location today, and although the staff was fine - they have nothing to work with. Food selections are horrible... I tried one of all the food items, all of them were just terrible. The ice cream was standard so that was fine.

Considering the location of this DQ, you have 10 better options within a mile on the same road, all local places with better ice cream, way way better food, and local character.

I was also confused by DQ's decision to allow food that is this bad under their brand name. DQ has had pretty solid fast food since the 1990s! It is far easier now than then to put out good food... The bar is far higher now... but it sure seems like DQ's bar is lowering dramatically.

If this is how food works now at DQ, pull the food entirely and stick to ice cream! You will be doing the brand and all...
