Good things:
Standard IHG amenities
Clean rooms
Bad Things:
Despite smiling and trying to be nice, front desk manager treated me with skepticism and a frown
I was not able to access internet because they only use last name and room number and it wasn't working. I told the manager it wasn't working, and she implied it was my fault. I tried again on my laptop and phone. She still implied it was my fault. I asked for the access code, instead of having to use last name and room number. I explained most IHG use the access code as the last name and room number is a faulty system. She ignored me. After I showed her by typing in my info it wasn't working, she took my phone in her hand, and put in the access code with out telling me what she was doing. Unacceptable. Give people the access code. You can always change it. Don't take someones phone and not tell them what you are doing. I was polite throughout all this, not angry or upset, but insistent she should swithch them over to the access code and she replied it wasn't safe (a lie as most other IHG hotels use it, I've stayed at over 50+ places).
I asked for late check out to 2 as a platinum member. They said they couldn't do after 12. The hotel was less then half full. No reason I needed to chekc out at 12, or at least not one the manager would tell me. I asked if I could work in the loby as I had a meeting from 11-2, and she replied with skeptacism and a wishy washy answer. Why is late check out not possible if it is an IHG perk?
Breakfast is so not great at AVID. This isn't the managers fault, but still it is such a low quality grade breakfast. It claims it's healthy, but it's a bunch of pre-packed processed options. It's not healthy, it's...
Read moreI arrived at 2. No one was at the front desk. A woman came out from the back office after several minutes. Instead of saying hello, she just told me I had to come back at 3 to check in. I have never dealt with a ruder woman at a hotel and I travel 100+ nights a year. When I returned at 5, again no one was at the front desk. After at least 5 minutes, staff came out to help me. I then complained about the previous woman. I was informed that the person I was complaining about was actually the general manager and she won’t let anyone check in early (I didn’t care about checking in early- I cared about how rude the woman was). The employee apologized and tried to make it right.
That night my air conditioning didn’t work. I never complain at hotels, so I didn’t seek out a fix for this. My fault there. In the morning, I noticed that there was again no staff to be found during breakfast and the cream cheese was not on ice, which is just not safe.
Because I work for government, I have a tax-exempt certificate. I have never had an issue using this certificate. When I emailed it to the general manager, she said she couldn’t remove the tax because I used a third-party website. I used our government travel agency and purchase card that I use every single time I travel. After several rude exchanges by email, the general manager stopped replying to my emails. At this point, I opened a complaint with IHG directly.
This hotel has so much potential, but until the general manager is either trained on proper procedures in the hospitality industry or no longer in her position, I...
Read moreWe stayed here for 3 nights midweek in late July. This is a very nice, newer, clean hotel in the East Traverse Bay area right on Route 31. Check-in was smooth, no issues and they accommodated our request for a room in the back of the hotel to be away from any road noise in the front. Breakfast was more than ample with many choices including yogurt, fruit, oatmeal, cereal, breads, juice, some hot eggs, and sausage/bacon. It took us about 10 minutes to drive into the downtown Traverse Bay area. They have a small pool (no hot tub) and a workout room. ||This is a great place to stay if you want a reasonably priced, modern hotel with a basic breakfast. The rooms have beds, a small desk/chair, and mini-fridge. There are no additional tables, chairs, sofas, etc. in the room, but there are a couple of basic sofas/chairs in the lobby area with TVs as well as the tables and chairs that are used at breakfast time. If you will be out and about exploring the area during the day, this place will fit the bill for you. If you're looking for lots more space, lounging/relaxing room, balcony, etc. then you may want to look elsewhere. The TART bike trail is right outside the back of the hotel too. We went bikeriding, ate in the downtown area, went to Sleeping Bear Dunes, etc. and it was a great place to start your day with a quick breakfast and coffee and end your day with a nice hot shower...
