Ronzio's is not very good at pizza.
Look, I hate dumping all over local institutional food chains, as I'm sure this review is going to piss a lot of people off. I especially dislike hating on places like Ronzio's that are appreciated by all walks of life, social classes, and ethnic groups around Rhode Island -- but I can no longer stay silent about the abuse this chain inflicts on the Ocean State: Ronzio's is and always has been overrated.
Good pizza starts with good dough. Ronzio's web site brags that the they "make [their] dough in each shop several times a day," which is a massive red flag that shows they don't understand the value of fermenting their dough. As a local pizza chain of over 20 stores that specializes in delivery, I don't expect Ronzio's to follow the Vera Pizza Napoletana rules, but I do expect them to understand the basics.
Due to many bad decisions that have been made with regards to their pizza recipe, Ronzio's crust is soft, floppy, and undersalted. Most people actually do not prefer this puffy style of pizza dough, which has been popularized by Pizza Hut and Dominos, but we've let our local pizza shops get away with imitating engineered chain-food to the point that this kind of crust has unfortunately become standard across the land.
On top of the insipid dough, Ronzio's boring sauce is bland, lacks imagination, and most importantly lacks seasoning. Again, not enough salt. The cheese is a shredded "dry" cheese blend that is about as generic and plain-tasting as cheese can be. I ordered my most recent greasy Ronzio's pizza with ham, bacon, and onions, and the toppings were the only part of the pizza that was not poorly executed. In fact, if I could have the toppings (especially the smoky bacon) on mozzarella melted on top of some Prego spread across a toasted English muffin, I think I'd prefer that to what was served to me at Ronzio's East Greenwich store.
Incidentally, Ronzio's aforementioned web site also indicates that their pizza is being served for school lunch programs in Providence, Cranston, and North Attleboro. It's been over 20 years, but I remember school lunch pizza. Sounds...
Read moreOrdered the 2 large one topping for $15.99 Monday special in the winter, with no issue. Ordered it again the other day (asked if the special was still available over the phone and I was told yes), and when I pick up the order, the owner (presumably based on the attitude) tells me the two pizzas are $26.99 plus tax. Outrageous!!
The owner lied at first and said that it is an outdated coupon on Google images. It is literally on the ronzio website, and I showed him. He said it should have been erased from the website FIFTEEN YEARS AGO! I have used the daily special coupons multiple times over the past 15 years.
The owner is a liar, and profiting off of false advertising. Never experienced such rude and unfriendly customer service before. Good customer service would have been honoring the advertised price, since the order was placed under false pretenses.
Pizza was a 4.1 ... cheese tasted very off. Similar to a four-cheese flavor...
Read moreNEVER AGAIN! Ordered through slice with the expectation of a 20-35 min wait. After placing the order the delivery time was shifted to an hour (fine, at least I got a heads up). Not only did we wait an hour, but we also waited an extra half hour as well. The part that set me off the edge, there was NO SAUCE AT ALL on the pizza. So, I waited an hour and a half for a pizza that was less than pleasing. I reached out to slice to rectify the incorrect pizza made, and all they offered was a $10 discount for the extended wait.
PS: Usually I wouldn’t care about this, but I did request to leave the pizza at the front door. The delivery driver still rang the bell (triggering my dogs while getting a toddler to fall asleep), and almost walked away with our food because we didn’t answer the door fast enough, because obviously we had a...
