THIS PLACE MAY HAVE A GOOD AMBIENCE AND DECOR BUT DON'T BE FOOLED, IT IS DEFINITELY NOT AT ALL AN 'ALL YOU CAN EAT' Japanese Sushi place.. We left very disappointed and felt that we have been ripped off of $170.00 for a party of 6 including a 7 year old.
If you are looking for a real ''ALL YOU CAN EAT' Japanese restaurant then you are better off going to NAGANO JAPANESE RESTAURANT in Morristown or SUSHI PALACE in Summit - both charges $25 for 'all you can eat' per person with the exact same concept of filling in a menu order form which is a dollar more than this FAKE 'ALL YOU CAN EAT' Japanese restaurant in East Hanover. Sashimi and sushi appetizers are limited and can only be ordered with a limit per customer during your entire meal. Sashimi has a 10 pieces per customer limit during the entire duration of your meal.
Six of us ate there today (7/29/2018) for a late lunch (1:30 pm), the place had so many empty tables and I specifically informed them that all of us will do the 'all you can eat'. After ordering and eating all 60 pieces of sashimi, I asked our server for a new 'all you can eat' menu form to order more food including another 25 pieces of sashimi. After a minute or so of handing the menu to the server, she can back and informed us that we are no longer allowed to order sashimi because we have consumed the maximum per person for it. She indicated that the limit was only 10 pieces per customer and since there were 6 of us, we have reached our limit of 60 pieces. She said it was on the menu. After looking at the menu again, it has a note on the sashimi line that says 'LIMIT 10 PCS PER CUSTOMER' but does not indicate the fact that this limit is for the entire duration of your meal. In Nagano, the sashimi is by chef's choice and do have a maximum per order per person. But if you want to order sashimi again, you can do so as many times as you want. You are charged $5 for any left overs. Sushi palace has no restriction as to the number of times and amount of sashimi you order but also charges I believe $5 for left overs.
When I asked the SAKANA manager about this limit, he indicated that they changed it to this because during their first month of operation, their Sushi part of the kitchen could not keep up with all the orders causing delay of food delivery to the table and customers complaining. So they have decided to apply this limit. When we ate there today, only a few tables had customers. The notice on the limitation on the menu was vague. If you can only order a specific food with a limit or one time with the maximum number of pieces per order during the course of your meal, then it should not be in the 'all you can eat' menu. I told this to the manager and also indicated that they should remove all items with such limitation because 'ALL YOU CAN EAT' means paying for a good amount of money to be able to EAT ALL YOU CAN EAT!!! They never explain or inform you about the limit. My husband is still upset about this and definitely we will not come back to this restaurant. We will definitely warm all our family and friends to stay away from this establishment. FALSE ADVERTISEMENT AND DESERVES...
Read moreUpdate from August 2021. We've been here when the place opened, and it left a good impression at that time. However, things were quite different this time. First, the place was just average busy, at least outdoor seating, but we waited at least 40 minutes to get our food. Only when I asked the waitress why does it take so long, she checked with the kitchen and brought out our order. Second, 3 of us chose "all-you-can-eat " menu. Some of the options there were supposed to be 8 pcs/order, like maki or specialty rolls. Only California rolls were 8, the other 2 choices were in smaller quantities. Not even sure if we got every choice we picked from the list. No big deal, we thought, we can get more. The deal, however, was big because my husband found alive worm peaking out of rice in one piece after we had maybe 4 pieces of sushi per person. We usually keep unpleasant things low profile, so I quietly pointed out the incident to our waitress and asked her to take the plate back to the kitchen. Yeah, I've heard of these low style tricks when people come to eat for free and drop a fly or a hair into their food, claiming it came like that from the kitchen. We don't play cheap and always pay our bill. Then another wait staff person came to apologize, suggested ordering something else, and offered a 10% off of our check. We didn't argue, though standard for a decent place should have been to cancel the bill. With zero appetite left we asked for a bill, expecting to see charges only for our drinks and other child's meal (not all-you-can-eat). But the bill came in full amount. Not going back ever, and wouldn't recommend to anyone. While I get things can go wrong in any kitchen, situations like this should be handled quickly and appropriately. It ruined our afternoon and left us in disgust from a thought that we might've eaten other creatures before noticing that one. Have a funny feeling in my stomach now, hopefully not from food poisoning.
Original review: Went there for a first time. Nice and cosy yet elegant decor. Service was quick; made to order all-you-can eat option was a bit tricky to figure out in the beginning, but we quickly got through that. Food was really good, we tried a couple of appetizers and quite a few sushi/maki. I highly recommend their Yummy roll. Best of all! Ice cream was also delicious. Will...
Read moreCome here if you want rude service, food that makes you sick and tip included for 4 people. A woman waitress came over immediately before we sat down to ask what we want. We asked for a few minutes to look at the menu. She came back again 4 minutes later and said, “are you ready yet?” We said no. She refused to come over again and sent over a male waiter, Dylan who was honestly the nicest person in there. Everyone else acts like you should be honored to be in their presence. Food is just plopped at the edge of your table and they dont even have the decency to hand you anything or even ask if you want a drink. One person in our party asked for a ginger ale and the female snickered with an attitude. She also asked for a straw which was thrown on the table. If you order multiple courses, the appetizer WILL come out last. Also, dont ask for napkins because they will ask just for you or the WHOLE table. Another person had sushi and immediately had violent abdominal pain outside the establishment. I ordered ramen soup with chicken and the chicken was gray. Very upset. Also, dont think that you wont leave a tip because they will make you, adding an automatic 18% to the tab and even have the audacity to add an additional tip line. No way in the world have i ever been disrespected more than at this establishment. I wouldnt even feed my animals this food let alone going here willingly to consume it.
Avoid this place at all costs! I WILL be contacting the New Brunswick DOH for an inspection of the...
