My friends and I wanted to hang out and get dinner together because we haven't seen each other for Halloween. I suggested this place (since I went here before with my family) and said that the food was good. I decided that I wanted to try and order in Korean because I wanted to practice my Korean. I showed up at the door with my friends and I said "Hello, table for 3" in Korean but then I got the most JUDGMENTAL side eyes ever. I thought I was just hallucinating but then like when I sat down and ordered tteokboki and spicy pork in Korean, the server repeated my order back to me in ENGLISH. Like excuse me?? im trying my best here to speak to u?? I get that I'm like a teenager but I was not like loud and annoying cus me and my friends are very quiet people.
Anyways I got my food but then they gave us 2 cokes instead of 2 cold waters. I tried to say "Oh wait I don't want coke I said I wanted cold water" but they didn't even LOOK my way so I had to be stuck drinking coke (which added like $6 on the bill). Also the tteokboki is disgusting cus it had the consistency of tomato soup (it was NOTHING like how my family makes it). Also while me and my friends were eating the server kept walking by and gave us side eyes and stuff.
Then I asked for the check (which I paid in Apple Pay) and then he shoved the check to me and pointed to the area where it said "tip". He was literally giving me a death stare as I tipped him 15% and I got up and left IMMEDIATELY. guys not only was the food like really bad and NOT anything like authentic Korean food but the staff made me feel like I was 2 inches tall and they seemed like bullies.
The server I am referring to is a Korean tall man with a square face and glasses. There is also a nice Korean ahjumma (old woman) there but I am not talking about her because the previous times I went she was really nice. But I have so much pent up anger and annoyance against that one particular tall man. Also there was another woman who my mom told me that almost SCAMMED her??
I rarely write reviews and I keep my emotions and anger to myself but the fact that I had this horrible of an experience shows that I will NEVER be returning and if I ever see that one tall man with the glasses I will tip him in...
Read moreFirst time, and sadly, also my last. I love Korean food but this was a disappointing lunch. I visited as they had just opened for the day, and the only persowas still swiping the floor, so at least they keep it clean. I got seated fairly quickly, and my order got taken promptly. The person taking my order, however, appeared robotic: no welcome, no smile. I initially ordered the bibimbap, but when i asked to upgrade it to come with a stone bowl just a minute later, he told me it was too late to make any changes. OK - not an issue because warm bibimbaps taste okay too, right?! Except, when my bibimbap arrived 12 minutes later, it was cold. The "miso soup" which accompanied it was also cold, and was the worst tasting standard-issue miso i have ever had (not enough paste, under salted, slimey kelp anyone?!). The banchan were equally underwhelming: the carrot & raddish had browned edges and were not crisp (although the seasoning was OK), the kelp smelled beyond expiry, the cucumber were over cooked and slightly slimey, the soybeans were under-seasoned, and the kimchi was average: not good but not bad either. My bibimbap, you ask? Besides being cold (not even room temperature), sadly the establishment forgot to incorporate any sesame oil whatsoever --- none of the veggies were sauteed in sesame oil, the baby spinach was in fact raw, the egg was cold, the overall lack of seasoning (despite my dousing it in gochujang!) made for a not-so-pleasant meal. Sadly, the most underwhelming Korean food i have ever had. Coupled with the lack of service, i'm still giving it a two star for cleanliness. I wont be back, and...
Read moreDuring the lunch and dinner time, this place is very busy, and they do not like "TAKE OUT CUSTOMERS". I ordered about $50 much food for take out, but one of workers says "I will let you have take out because this is not busy hours" (what?? then should I thank to you?) and even they did not say "good bye or thank you" to me. There was nothing bye word to me and even did not look at me (They treated me like animal). They acted like they are giving mercy to me because they let me have take out. And the other thing that I surprised that they print tips amount how much should pay on the receipt (like 20%=9,37. 25%11.72. 30%=14.06), yeah this some times help me to calculate tips quickly, BUT, the recommended tips are starting from 20%. NJ law is required 15% for tips, but they make customers feel guilty if customers pay lower than 20% tips.
This is only one place of tofu restaurant in East Hanover, but I know that there are other place that provide better service and cheaper price and better take out service in Parsippany. And also there are Korean restaurant that have more kinds menu in Westfield, Edison, Parsippany, Union. etc. Just google them.
Anyway, this place is very unfriendly and unkind for take out customers. I am pretty sure that They will do same behavior for take...
