A Taste of India in East Hartford: Dosa Hut Delivers on Flavor and Speed Dosa Hut in East Hartford is a must-visit for anyone craving authentic South Indian cuisine. The food is, in a word, awesome. Every dish is a flavorful journey, and the dosas are particularly noteworthy, crisp, thin, and filled with deliciousness. The menu offers a wide variety of options, ensuring there's something to please every palate, whether you're a fan of spicy curries or savory crepes. Beyond the fantastic food, the service is remarkably fast, which is a huge plus, especially during peak hours. The staff is efficient and friendly, ensuring your dining experience is smooth from start to finish. However, a word of caution for those planning a visit: the space can get quite challenging. The arrangements are a bit close to each other, which can feel a little cramped, especially when the restaurant is busy. For this reason, I highly recommend making a reservation, particularly if you're dining with a larger group or during a popular time. A hidden gem within Dosa Hut is their eggless bakery section. Be sure to check it out! They offer a delightful selection of baked goods that are perfect for a sweet ending to your meal or to take home for later. In summary, Dosa Hut is a culinary delight that excels in both flavor and speed. While the seating can be tight, the outstanding food and quick service more than make up for it. Just remember to call ahead for a reservation!

Summary – New branch of Dosa Hut (original in Rocky Hill) that serves South Indian food. Prices are reasonable and portions are good. There is plenty of parking and few tables for a dine in option. (Full Review Below) Atmosphere – The restaurant is located in the Apna Bazaar plaza in East Hartford, CT. Route 5. The plaza is in a very safe area. It just opened and is clean. The dining area can probably fit about 50 to 75 people. It does feel tight. Expect to wait on weekends. There’s also Hot Bread inside the restaurant which sells cakes (please check out my review on it posted separately) Parking – Plenty of free parking within the plaza. Service – Service was okay. We did go on grand opening day, so it was very busy, but we got the table right away and the food did come quickly. Food – We ordered Onion Rava Masala Dosa and Mini Idli and Medu Vada. All items came with Sambar, Coconut and Tangy Chutney. All items were decent. Idli and Medu Vada were thoroughly cooked. The taste is same as the Rocky Hill branch. I suspect all other items will be good and taste just like the one at the Rocky Hill branch. Price - Very reasonable prices on all menu items. Probably the cheapest prices on Dosa and the Appetizer items in CT for the South Indian restaurant. Rating: Atmosphere: 4 out of 5 Parking: 5 out of 5 Service: 3 out of 5 Food: 4 out of 5 Price: 5 out of 5 Overall: 4 out of 5

I visited Dosa Hut in East Hartford (on Main Street, easy to find with plenty of parking around) and overall had a really good experience. The Onion Chilli Rava Masala Dosa was the star—crispy, well-seasoned, and served hot. I also tried the Tiffin Box, which was a nice combination and definitely good value for money. The only thing that fell short for me was the idli—it wasn’t as soft and fluffy as it should be. Inside, the restaurant has a casual, family-friendly vibe with a decent amount of seating. It’s simple but clean, and service was quick. Prices are very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes, which makes it a great option for a casual meal. What really surprised me was the bakery section inside—they have a huge selection of eggless cakes, beautifully decorated and very tempting. It adds a unique twist, since you can grab a South Indian meal and then pick up a cake for later. Overall, Dosa Hut is a solid spot in East Hartford if you’re craving South Indian food at fair prices, with the bonus of an impressive eggless cake collection. I’ll definitely be back for the dosas and to try more from the bakery!

Update..Friday me and my family came to get dosa and curry. As we are happily eatting with a jammed packed restaurant a lady started screaming at the waiter..." Why did they get a dosa before our table! They came after us! This is not right!" The lady yelled then went to go pay for what she bought. I had to pray for everyone. The store got quiet. I felt sad for the waiter. How embarrassing! She could of asked for the Owner. I saw the Owner but he never came out front when the lady was yelling. Maybe he was in the bathroom but I'm not sure. I don't know why people have to yell like that at someone over food. I understand that people are hungry and she was waiting but we are suppose to be human and talk with respect. It's not good for the mind and body. Anger will hurt the person yelling and the person receiving. Seems people are unhappy but I tell you it's always busy there Everytime we go and we will keep going! My husband tried a new item! The Vidaloo Curry! It's my new favorite. I LOVE IT!!

Great experience and i will tell you why if you want to read on this digital paper. After reading much of the reviews and my own direct experience i give it 5 beautiful Stars. Where there is fast food which is crappy and unhealthy at least at Dosa Ville you get fast food meets Indian food. The price are great to me for what you get because have you seen indian prices at other restaurants? Crazy town. Their dosa is the best i tried here so far . It is very crunchy and giant. They also give you soup and stuff to dip it in. I would say its pretty healthy compared to burger joints. Also we can get a lot of vegan stuff here which is a bonus for us because we don't do dairy. The highlight though of all things is the kindness of the people working there. Always smiles, always kindness. Sometimes they forget to bring you something because they are busy but its okay we ask again. I saw the owner walking to the tables and checking in on everyone to see if they were happy. Like a house owner welcoming us in and feeding us even if we do pay you can feel his kindness. Environment wise some people complained how hot and crowded it was but i feel like im in India in a busy village and thats what people really need in their life that memory of home and togetherness. The place is packed come evening but if you go earlier in the day its quiet. If the food was so horrible why would it be packed with people stuffing their faces? Why would my husband keep ordering more food? I am sure its not easy running two successful Dosa Huts. Its got to be hard at times too. So many people want to run a business but running a business takes guts and glory to sustain it and to keep it successful. Props to the owner. I would love for them to have lime soda like they have in India with seltzer water and lime and black salt and sweetner. I actually asked if they had it but their lime soda had artificial sweetener and not natural which made me decline. We can't make everyone happy but we can at least be kind. Also the guy doing the dishes hes great. His smile and hard work. Thank you to everyone at Dosa hut which includes the people behind the scenes. God...

Tried DosaHut’s new East Hartford branch after hearing about its recent launch — and honestly, it was a total disaster. Safe to say, this will very likely be our first and last visit.

What we ordered: Mysore Masala Dosa, Pav Bhaji, and Sambar Vada.

Food Quality & Portions: The Mysore Masala Dosa was barely passable — bland, uninspired, and definitely worse than something we could make at home. The sambar and chutney were served in laughably tiny portions — the smallest I’ve ever seen at any Indian restaurant, and that’s saying something.

Now for the Sambar Vada — it was an outright disaster. Overloaded with salt and clearly made from frozen vadas. Reheating frozen food already intensifies salt levels, and dunking that into already-salty sambar made it borderline inedible. When we politely asked if it could be replaced, the chef’s dismissive response was, “That’s how it’s made here.” Translation: eat it or get out. Rude and unprofessional. With that attitude, it’s hard to imagine this place staying open for long. Pav Bhaji was the only halfway decent thing we had — but not enough to redeem the experience.

Ambience: The space is cramped and chaotic. Despite a clearly posted capacity limit of 47, they were well over it. Tables were grimy, and we were told to sit at a soaking wet table — only after asking did someone reluctantly come to wipe it down. Not the kind of environment where you want to eat.

Service: What service? The staff seemed completely sidelined, operating like they had no voice of their own — just carrying out orders from the chef with zero regard for the customer.

Chef's Attitude: Hands down, the worst part of the experience. The chef seemed more concerned with churning out quantity than with serving anything remotely enjoyable. When a kitchen can’t take basic feedback and responds with arrogance, it’s a...

Disappointing and Unprofessional Experience

We were excited when this East Hartford location opened, being a branch of the well-known restaurant in Rocky Hill. However, our visit turned out to be a major letdown.

Accessibility Concerns: Upon arrival, we were shocked to be told that wheelchair users were not allowed inside due to a "no strollers" policy. This was both unacceptable and discriminatory. Only after mentioning potential legal consequences were we allowed entry.

Upselling Practices: The staff, largely college students from India, consistently pushed the most expensive menu items when we asked for recommendations. While we understand upselling is common, it felt aggressive and disingenuous. Future visitors should trust their own judgment when ordering.

Food Quality: The food was bland and lacked basic seasoning. The chutneys, in particular, were disappointing and nowhere near the quality of the Rocky Hill location.

Billing Issues: We ordered a Mini Tiffin and a Rava Dosa, but the staff added a Mysore Masala Dosa, claiming it was part of the combo. When the bill came, we were charged for all three items. Although they promised a cash refund, it kept getting delayed—with promises of repayment later that day, then the next. We never received a clear resolution.

Final Verdict: Unfortunately, our experience was frustrating on multiple fronts—from accessibility issues to food quality and billing mishandling. We hope the management takes this feedback seriously and implements necessary...
