Tasty Twist — Restaurant in East Lansing

Growing up in Okemos, this place has been a timeless favorite. As much as I like Ice Cream, I am grateful that my parents kept me away from this place, aside from a couple special occasions. Now that I am older, I try to exhibit self control, but my love for ice cream is hard to keep in check. I was driving back from Grand Rapids and decided to meet a friend here for an ice cream cone. Vanilla Soft serve is my go to and all-time favorite. SO, What did I do? I didn’t get distracted by all of the fun flurry flavors, banana splits, and hard packed options they had. Instead, I ordered a plain ol’ medium vanilla soft serve. When she handed me the cone I was surprised by how large the medium was. She certainly did not skimp on the ice cream. I like to bite my ice cream, and Tasty Twist ice cream had a nice firm creaminess that made it enjoyable with nice mouth feel. If you’re a “licker” I have no doubt you’d experience a similar sensation. But, make no mistake, this ice cream is no where near the quality of the classic Vermont Creemee. After a while, I did find the outer edges of the ice cream to start melting around the cone abnormally fast so consider that along with how quickly you eat your ice cream when selecting a size. Or, you just may end up with ice cream dripping on your shoes and sticky hands. The best way to describe my experience was like that of a McDonald’s ice cream cone but, bigger and a little better. Awesome little ice cream shop with a great variety of hard and soft serve flavors with all the toppings you'd expect. Quiet, patient and friendly staff that seems to be family owned maybe.

Anyway... I had mint cookie and another scoop of... I don't know. But it was chocolate with chunks of peanut butter and... and... and... dude.... awesome... Oh strawberry and chocolate hot fudge. Yum! You hungry yet?

What else do I have to write? This is my freshman thesis. Hands down the BEST ice cream shop still open at 9:35 pm and a rush of happy customers came in after me too! All happy! How can we go wrong? it's ice cream! (What? I need 49 more pages? Well maybe I'll change my thesis to something about creating world peace. Send ice cream to hot places and war zones! The end. What? I have visited this place on numerous occasions and have usually had a great experience. The ice cream is good and it's a great way to top off a day.

This last occasion however has left a slightly bitter taste in my mouth. The two staff members inside appeared to be somewhat disgruntled. It was like my family and I were bothering them.

To top things off, I ordered two small waffle cones but was charged for two large ones. The cost is really not the point but didn't set well after the less than welcoming reception. Normally I would chalk up the extra to a tip and leave it at that, but the experience has caused me to possibly not return to this establishment.

I am truly saddened by this experience as I try to see the best in people. The family being present probably pushed it over the acceptable limit.
