Steak 'n Shake — Restaurant in East Peoria

This rating mainly applies to my most recent experience there. I tend to get take-out on my way to work since I work third shift. My past experiences with this location have been quite nice. I order through the app, arrive just a little before my pick-up time, and generally get my food even before my scheduled time. Tonight was a much different story. I show up, see the drive through backed up by seven cars, and thank the stars I'm not going through that heck. But when I approach the doors like usual, they're both locked. I flag a cashier's attention and say I'm here for a pick up. To which she says that I need to go through the drive through. I look back to the seven car pile up then back to her and say, "Even for a pick up though the app?" She asks if it's already been paid for, which I confirm, and she says she'll bring it right out after confirming my name.

I waited for almost twenty minutes. During that time, only three of the seven cars actually made it past the ordering stage at the drive though, one through the paying stage, and they only brought out one person's food. I don't want to be 'that person' or 'a Karen', but I honestly don't have any idea what they were doing in there, considering how little was done. I understand that they may have been short staffed, but it still doesn't explain the absolute lack of anything happening during that period of time.

I had to leave before I could even get the food that I had paid for otherwise I would have been late for work. It was ten minutes past my scheduled pick-up time when I left, knowing that if I stuck around any later I would be in hot water with my job.

I'm no longer coming this way on my way to work after this experience, since I no longer know if I'd be able to get my food and get to work on time like I have before. Maybe this was just a bad night for them, but I'm still not taking chances like that after this.

My co-worker was thankfully nice enough to pick it up for me, since she was getting off work when I arrived. Upon receiving my bag, the receipt said that the order time was at 9:35 pm. I am unsure if that is the time they finished it, if that's when they got it in (despite ordering in the app before even 8 pm), or what that's supposed to be. Just the fact that my food wasn't received until almost 40 minutes after my scheduled pick-up time (and that's ONLY because someone was kind enough to take their personal time to grab it for me) is something I'm not...

Tonight's visit at Steak and Shake pretty much made me decide that I'm more than likely never going back here again. We pulled up to the drive-thru at 8:04pm. and there were three cars in front of us. By the time we made it to the box to order it was 8:27pm. Twice the girl told me to go ahead with my order and after I requested the first thing she told me to "hold on" both times. I'm thinking maybe she had been a new employee or something because she kept stopping and asking the woman that she was working with questions. When we finally got our order placed we pulled up to the window at 8:43 p.m. it was the other lady that our order taker kept asking questions. She went over the order and asked a few questions herself because our order wasn't properly taken. When we got home we opened the bag and realize that the barbecue sauce we had asked for was open and spilled all over the inside of the bag and inside the chicken strip box. We also notice that all of the fries were half full and they were soggy and cold, the Patties on the burgers were so thin & small that it was pretty much just a bread sandwich and lettuce was dark green wet and Soggy. It was probably the grossest meal I've ever had. I'm not usually one to call and complain but I think I'll be calling the manager in the morning. I'm disappointed that I had to write a negative review I enjoy doing these reviews on Google Maps and 99% percent of the time they are all positive feedback. Went to n. University store almost pioneer parkway. Had coupons, with friend. She ordered her choice the double cheeseburger meal. Told as sides with baked beans or side salad. No cottage cheese or slaw. Shake came with this. Mine was Chili mac n side salad. Both us told no Italian dressing, didn't know if had ranch, French or thousand island. Her c/pon 5.99 n mine was 4.99. I did order root beer. They tell us after we waited nearly 55 minutes n shake n soda drank, they LOST our order, someone erased screen. NO place not busy. Young mom there with 5 kids, 1 baby n 4 looking around 3 or 4. Then, the Mgr., as young looking as our server, but Mgr. Stood with table girl n kids, talking entire time. 1 other table, they were still waiting n only had water. Then after waiting n giving another chance, they finally brought our food. They tried to charge me over $20.00. Both my neighbor n I asked why? C/pons. They charged us the shake which was on c/pon. N side salads, plus separated Chili mac from side salad. Ended up paying nearly $15.00.NO I left NO tip. I was ripped off. No crackers with Chili mac, n at end raw onions thrown on top. I told them what they did was wrong. Still charging me this, said here's burger, shake, fries, n a side c/pon back. Told them n those then coming in never be back, n will tell ALL that listens how much these young kids were are crooks! All looked like maybe 18, to 20 yr old age. No one looked much...
