EDITED 6/7/17
My previous review is below, but I needed to amend it, because I just had a sandwich here which changed my life. Actually, they call it a "Braised Pork sandwich", but it isn't really a sandwich... it's a religious experience. Every ingredient was perfection, and they blended together with all the precision and grace of a Beethoven symphony (3rd, 5th, or 9th-- not the boring ones).
The bread was beautiful and fluffy, yet firm. It seemed to have been scientifically calibrated to be just sturdy enough to support the meat within, without adding weight to the sandwich. It was as if the braised pork filling was being served upon a velvet pillow.
I don't remember the first bite. I may have blacked out or something. I can only assume it was a foodgasm, and I fear that I may have involuntarily reenacted Meg Ryan's classic diner scene from When Harry Met Sally.
The second bite was more memorable, as the realization of the moment dawned on me. This was not a meal. This was a transcendent experience. The universe was trying to tell me something. I heard the distant sounds of trumpets.
With my third bite, I futilely tried to understand and deconstruct the magic--nay--miracle of the sandwich. Why was it so good? How do they make the aioli-slathered bread taste like the first laugh of a baby?
With my fourth bite, I realized that the glory of the sandwich was beyond my comprehension; that it was not for me to understand. Rather, I knew, I had been chosen... Chosen to tell the world of this sandwich.
Praise be the Braised Pork sandwich.
Amen.
Best bakery in western mass, no contest.
Sandwiches: Good to great. I particularly like their egg sandwich on the croissant. Amazing flavor... just the right amount of spicy peppers.
Breads: I bought a brioche from small oven a couple of weeks and it was perfect. We used it to made the best French toast of all time. Then we finished off the loaf one buttered slice at a time. I've enjoyed their other breads as well.
Eclairs: excellent. Filled with a perfect pastry cream. Yum.
Cakes: best ever? I got a birthday cake here, and it was not only delicious in every aspect, it was also BEAUTIFUL. It looked better than most wedding cakes I've seen. We got a chocolate cake layered with pastry cream and covered with buttercream frosting. It was perfect.
I live within walking distance of this place, so I will be...
Read moreSo this is my first time here I saw a good amount of positive reviews, so I said hey why not let’s try it First the place is kinda small has a few tables some nice artwork on the wall the only thing that really bothered me was the fact there was a weird smell like it wasn’t a gross smell but it was overwhelming but again I have a sensitivity to smells so take that as you will so I got a breakfast sandwich the Bread was nice and soft the taste It wasn’t bad I’ve had worse but the bacon unfortunately came out super tough I think it got way overcooked / I did get a medium coffee well a mocha thing I don’t know it didn’t taste bad but in my opinion it was kind of weak tasting if that makes sense and the last thing was a cupcake frosting was good not overly sweet a lot of it there the cupcake itself not bad kind of dry a little bit moist again I’m not like a cupcake professional lol so overall it wasn’t terrible so would I try it again yeah maybe get a couple different things not sure but yeah, I would say it’s worth a try also before I forget the price so I got three things and the total was about $15 not bad well I hope this review helps Thanks for reading...
Read moreI used Small Oven for my wedding cake, and I can't even tell you how absolutely stunningly perfect it was! I worked closely with one of the owners, Amanda, to make sure the taste and design were exactly what we wanted and she was soooo helpful/accommodating. We went with a Lavender cake with lemon curd and Italian buttercream frosting which was to die for! I really wanted my wedding cake to look like a birch tree and she absolutely PERFECTED the look. At the last minute my fiancé and I realized we forgot to purchase a wedding topper, we were specifically looking for two blue birds, I told Amanda the week before our wedding and said we wouldn't have time to purchase one so we would just not have one and and she went out and purchased the perfect blue bird duo topper there ever was, I was amazed she would go out of her way like that, it was truly a magical cake and fabulous experience working...
