Here's the thing about Shelburne Falls: not al locations are created equal. I mostly go to the King Street Northampton location and it is EXCELLENT. But I think I am well within my rights to hold up this Easthampton location to the King Street level. I used to come into Easthampton to order at the counter before I discovered the AMAZING. app I LOVE The Sheburne Falls app!! I can place my order and pay for it with the app and when I show up it's ready and waiting for me.
I cannot recommend actually going into this Easthampton location to order. I've done it a number to times and the service was abysmal. Now, I haven't actually gone in to order in at least a year, so things may have changed in management. But the problem clearly was the guy who was managing (I knew he was the manager from overhearing extensive, inappropriate conversations while waiting for someone to acknowledge my presence and take my order).
I've worked in coffee shops. I've owned a coffee shop. I currently own and cook at my own Diner. I know how this whole small, local food service deal works. And I recognize a completely toxic workplace when I see it. Again, hopefully the same dude is not still managing? But I will not set foot inside this location except to pick up my mobile order (because I had an appointment in Southampton and it was the most convenient location for a coffee and bagel.) I gotta deduct stars for Bro Culture BS. Enough already with that.
Sadly, I cannot "return" any stars for the quality of coffee. Since I only ever order one thing to drink (medium Mocha with whole milk, no whipped cream, extra hot) and some sort of toasted bagel with flavored cream cheese (my faves are sesame bagel toasted dark with either the garlic chive or sun-dried tomato and jalapeño cream cheese), it is easy for me to compare the coffee at this Easthampton location with that at King Street.
They make a terrible mocha. Really bad. Just takes like milk. Can barely taste the espresso or the chocolate. Which is bizarre. How does that even happen? Also, luke warm at best. Despite my request for "extra hot."
This isn't a one time occurrence. So obviously it's my fault for trying Easthampton again.
Two stars because the bagels are good, toasted darkly the way I requested and the flavored cream cheeses are good. If you know from a decent espresso drink and that's what you are after ( I do NOT drink Starbucks...), avoid...
Read moreI stopped in to what looked like a lovely little coffee shop looking for a place to have some food and pass time while waiting for an appointment. I had purchased a coffee from Dunkin, but also ordered some food from this business to be a paying customer. The cashier waited until I had purchased my food AND SAT DOWN TO EAT before declaring in front of everyone in an extremely rude and condescending tone "I can't have you in here with outside drinks." It was completely humiliating, and at first I believed he was joking. He doubled down, and a patron near me was so shocked that he stood up to defend me and said "Really? I'm so sorry he's doing that to you." This could have been handled privately by pulling me aside, but instead, the cashier decided to humiliate me in front of everyone for something completely harmless. I will NEVER be returning to this shop, and will make sure no one I know goes in here either. Thanks for nothing. Sadly, the donut was actually very good. Too bad the staff don't match...
Read moreThis is my first time in Easthampton. I'm in town visiting a friend, well, she doesn't get off work this Christmas eve until 1pm so I went for a little walk, book in hand, looming for a nice quiet and relaxing place to read and relax. I found Shelbourne Falls Coffee Roasters. You walk in and it feels like you've stepped into an old friend's living room. The staff was friendly, made my triple soy latte quickly and with a smile. I walked to the back to find a few more couches in a nice quiet and warmly lit room in which to relax. As I sipped my drink and read my book I looked around to notice the wifi password written on a chalkboard. Excellent. I used the restroom and found it quite clean. It seems that the staff knew a handful of the customers by name lending credit to this inviting small town establishment. I travel a lot and visit many coffee houses and this rates very high among the rest. It being a local roaster gets it a few extra points as I always try to stay away from national...
