I had a decent wait for an emergency repair prior to heading out for military business, and decided to take a walk to find something to eat. I stumbled across this - quite literal - hidden gem, and the smell alone forced me to walk into the door! Being the first customer of the day has its perks, as they pulled out fresh smoked meats, mac & cheese, and an ambrosia-like smoked "armadillo egg" (think if a jalapeño popper had an affair with a bacon, brisket, and some other succulent mouthwatering smoke meat!) and gave me free samples. Read moreI had ordered a brisket sandwich and Mac n cheese from this place before they changed locations for lunch at my job a while ago and it effectively ruined my day. I ordered the sandwich with "wild sauce" and it was entirely flavorless. The Mac and cheese was even worse because it tasted like straight butane, they had it kept the tray on one of those Sterno buffet warmers which I'm assuming was the cause, but when used properly it won't make your food taste like gas. I'm sure they've improved since they changed locations but for the price I paid at the time I felt totally scammed. I ended up throwing almost all of it away and the place where I was working at the time didn't allow for flexible lunch time so I was just hungry the rest of the work day. This stuff is good, so good. I talked with JT for a minute about smoking and bbq (I smoke on a UDS as a hobby) and he knows his stuff. Got a pulled pork with Carolina vinegar - it was tender, Smokey, and spicy. If you looked up what a Carolina pork sandwich should be, this should be it. He gave me a taste of the brisket and I was legit shocked at how tender and moist it was. It had a great smoke ring, great plain rub on the outside, and nearly just melted in my mouth.
