Came to visit Philly from NC and stopped by here because the reviews were fantastic. We got there right at 12, took pictures outside the place, laughed and went in as soon as they opened. We were the first people to order that day. Unfortunately, we did not receive our food for an entire HOUR… The way management handled the situation was extremely poor, to say the least. They really need to take classes on hospitality and how to “manage” situations. If they had handled the situation right, I would be leaving a 4 star review instead of a 1 star review. After such an egregious wait, and being ignored MULTIPLE times, our food should have been comped in some way, an extremely humble apology should have been given, and I would be writing a 4 star review about how “mistakes happen, but the way they handled it was EXCELLENT. Instead, I am leaving a 1 star review with a detailed account of our experience with the sole purpose and hope in writing this is that the family who owns this restaurant really self reflects and learns from this. They have everything going for themselves, I’m sure it is profitable for them and good job to them for that! But SERVICE and HOSPITALITY is the industry and if you do not have that, you will always be mediocre. THE EAGLES WERE PLAYING THE BRONCOS AT PHILLY AND ALL THE TV’s WERE OFF. And the Eagles lost by the way!! Kind of like this restaurant that day!! If they cannot admit to ROYALLY screwing up and bettering themselves, be warned everyone. If done wrong by this place, they will NOT make it better. So here is what happened. A young boy worked at the register and I would be surprised if he could tie his own shoes. He was completely helpless the multiple times I asked him where the heck my order was. He would walk into the kitchen, come back, and not say a single word to me?? Which made me have to go up to him and ask, SO? WHERE IS MY ORDER? He never could tell me!! At one point, an extremely sweaty man came from the kitchen to ask what the name for our order was. He made me feel like he was going to handle it. Just know, another 30 minutes would go by and STILL NO FOOD!! We honestly started laughing at this point, other customers that were waiting 20-30m were also laughing with us. At one point, the female manager came out and said “Please be patient with us” and the audacity to say that truly floored me… We had waited 50minutes, we had given plenty of patience!!! Finally our order came up, and she gave us a pack of cookies for the trouble… A PACK OF COOKIES!!! And the Cheesesteaks= MID Would I go again? No. Would I recommend? Absolutely not. Please learn from this!! Know how to take care of your customers!! I even saw a response on google to a negative review and the response said something like “we wish you would’ve called soon” as if ANY of the blame was on the customer?? MUST DO...
Read moreWhile this place is outside Philly proper, it's a proper Philly cheesesteak! That's all you really need to know, but to the specifics for those who want them - The bread is the perfect hoagie roll. As for cheese they offer the expected whiz, provolone, and American. The ribeye is fresh (not frozen), tender, and delicious.
I also tried their chicken cheese steak and it was very good. The chicken was moist and easy to eat. I didn't feel disappointed with my choice even after trying the ribeye. Both were very good. The sandwich is 12" and they offer just the one size except on weekday lunches where they have 8" available. I am thankful I shared a sandwich, because it was a lot of absolutely delicious food.
We got their fries to share. Definitely plan to share if you have a regular appetite. Usually fries can be a bit greasy in a sandwich shop, not true. These were hot, fresh, and no more greasy than well fried french fries need to be. They were lightly crisp on the outside while the inside was fluffy and soft. There were also seasonings to toss the fries in - the garlic Parmesan drew me, but I was outvoted for cheese whiz fries. They were still delicious.
My husband grew up in Delaware state, but we live in Ohio, and he really appreciates being able to have a real cheesesteak anytime we get remotely close to Philly. We have tried places in Philly and outside, and this is our favorite. We will be back for more.
My only complaint was that the shop was HOT, Despite the heat working against my appetite and desire to eat, the food was still delicious and worthwhile. I even ordered another two sandwiches to go because I couldn't get back here before we left town to eat again. Even though it was cold, they were still good. If you heated it up, I bet it would be...
Read moreDO NOT GET FRIES!!! I ordered Garlic Parm Fries for $7, it came in a small styrofoam container, barely any fries in it. The fries were soggy and old, had a microscopic shaving of parm cheese and NO GARLIC POWDER what so ever. Complete rip off. The chicken cheesesteak was about $13.50 and very mediocre, chicken seemed like it was boiled and chopped up, roll was average. I hope to god they have good cheesesteaks hence the name but I will not be going back to try.
UPDATE: After the disappointing meal, I felt my stomach begin to gurgle and twist in knots as strange hellish noises grumbled from within. I frantically ran to the latrine as my body rejected the boiled disgraceful mess of a chicken cheesesteak before it ate away my insides. Thankfully I survived to tell the tale and warn you to STAY AWAY from the blinding yellow sign on Lancaster Ave which reads “Philly Cheesesteaks,” for what they are serving is far from it.
**Response to Owner’s Response: I appreciate your response but the rolls weren’t the problem. Why are you not addressing the main issue which is charging $7 for a very small portion of old, soggy fries, charging $2 more than regular fries even though there was no garlic powder and a microscopic shaving of parmesan (microscopic meaning I could barely see any)? Also the mediocre chicken cheesesteak that made me sick and cost a whopping...
