My mother and I used to eat at this place for almost 10 years. We were good friends with the owner and the food was always good which prompted us to come back for more nights out here. I eventually started working for the owner as a bus boy for my first job and my perception of the restaurant completely changed. What many people with bad reviews on this place say is that the service is horrible, which from personal experience is true. While working my shift I noticed that the waiters just stand around like buffoons, sometimes just sitting on their phones only looking for people to seat and get orders from while my other coworkers and I were working hard cleaning up after customers left, cleaning the dishes in the kitchen, washing down the tables, and setting up new places for customers. I worked hard the few nights I worked here and after somewhat learning how to do my work as a bus boy was pushed around by a control freak waiter who demanded me to sweep the floors when there was nothing there, and clean the disgusting kitchen drains just so he didn’t have to himself simply because I was in “training”. He also told me to clear a table “faster” when I was going as quickly,as a I could without being sloppy and making a mess. After not even a full week I was let go BY MY FAMILY FRIEND WHO GAVE ME THE JOB KNOWING I HAD NO EXPERIENCE. because my coworkers complained that I was “too slow” even when I did my best as an employee in training. I am devastated at the treatment I received while working with the other employees who went behind my back and complained to the manager when I did everything I was supposed to on the job and more attempting to seat people when no one else was around and get peoples drinks. The service doesn’t actually care about the customers or how they are treated, they only care about how big their tip pool is by pushing out employees that genuinely care about the service and the 10.50 they...
Read moreWe used to be regulars at Zip, going in almost weekly for KBBQ. We would bring friends and family to our (used to be) go to spot. That loyalty apparently means nothing now.
Recently, we were told that no matter how large the party or how much we order, we’re only allowed two egg pots or tofu soups. Why? Because of egg prices. That’s right, even if you drop several hundred dollars on one of their expensive combos for large parties, you still get rationed like it’s the apocalypse. I could understand limiting extras for a small group asking for five servings each, but a party of eight asking for three? That’s completely reasonable, especially considering that these sides are traditionally unlimited at Korean BBQ spots. Annoying? Yes. Understandable? Maybe.
But today was the final straw.
I went with one other person. Just two of us. Still, we ordered the combo, enough food for four, because we wanted to enjoy dinner and take leftovers home. When I asked for a few takeout boxes to split our leftovers, the owner snapped NO and she’d only give me two. I explained we had a lot of meat and I wanted to keep the sides separate. She walked away.
I tried asking the server for ONE small side dish box to pack the sides (and I’d have to mix all the sides at that). His response? “Sorry, the owner told me not to give you any boxes.”
Are. You. Serious?
You’re really going to lose a loyal customer over a $0.05 to-go box?
We’re done. No more Zip for me, my family and our friends. Hope limiting takeout containers helps you balance those egg costs! Good luck with that Mrs. Kim, while you watch your customer base walk out...
Read moreSushi is so so, and customer service is HORRIBLE. I've come here twice and the employees aren't very nice. The first time I came I ordered a spicy tuna hand roll. The guy made a cut roll. I reiterated to him when I saw he was making the wrong wrong and he still handed it to me and said that I didn't specify hand roll. I've never once been to a sushi place that wouldn't re-make the customer the roll they wanted. Poor service example number 1. The second time I came It was slow between lunch and dinner... There were two people at the sushi bar and not a single table on the sushi side of the restaurant was taken. I asked for a 4 person table so that I could sit on the same side of the table as my girlfriend. The guy seating us made a ridiculous face and acted as if my request was a problem. His response was so obvious that I asked if there was something wrong with that. He told me the restaurant might get busy so he'd prefer we sit at a 2 person table. The restaurant is empty... To not only have an issue with it, but to show a negative physical reaction the way he did is absurd. I'll never come back here again. Try Wabi Sabi across the street. The employees there are always awesome...
