I'm a 19 year old girl, I recently went there with my boyfriend on a Monday and it was just a little disappointing. For context, I usually love kyoto all you can eat sushi! I mostly have gone to the Maple grove location but we were closer to the eden prarie location today. We had dinner in the restaurant. The servers were mostly attentive which was a plus. However the food was the main area of disappointment. The Sweet potato in the sweet potato roll was undercooked, cold, and crunchy, I took one bite, noticed immediately, and sent it back. They made me another one and it was delicious so props to them for that. However the vegetable, and the tofu tempura batter was undercooked so it tasted oily and texture wise was pasty and sadly not crunchy. Also side note and maybe more of a preference but the cucumber roll was lukewarm, I like them chilled. We ordered the chicken wings and at the Maple grove location they have smaller flats and drums w a light fried coating, meat is tender. At the eden prarie location the wings came as all drums and they were huge and smothered in crunchy, thick, oily batter. My first two bites were just of the battered coating. The chicken texture itself was bouncy and not at all tender, when I poked it with a chopstick it wouldn't go through the meat and bounced right back after the pressure was released. We didn't even make it through one drum. I ordered two pieces of the mackerel sushi and unfortunately I got the pieces with the most skin. Until today I have never had a peice of mackerel from kyoto or any all you can eat sushi that wasn't tender. But this mackerel couldn't be torn in two with my teeth, it had an inconsistent texture in the one piece they gave me. And in the other piece of mackerel, it was stringy which is also something I've never had happen until today. Biggest disappointment was the price, at the Maple grove location for dinner I was only charged around 40 dollars for two people and yes it was dinner not lunch. Even online it says everywhere that kyoto sushi dinner is 25.99. For two people for dinner on a Monday night we each paid 40 dollars. It felt really unfortunate because I hadn't even enjoyed my experience. My request is that they at least update the price for the cost of dinner on all their platforms so people aren't mislead and when the check comes you don't want to regurgitate your dinner back out and run far away. Service was not bad though. I tried to make it obvious when we wanted refills by leaving our empty cups on the edge of the table but despite as often as they'd walk by and stare into our booths, I'd see them walk right by and just stand to the side. On a side note whenever I'd let them know that I didn't like something they understood kindly and didn't charge me extra for any waste! Probably won't be back for a while and definitely never again to that sorry location....
Read moreAbsolutely the worst restaurant my girlfriend and I have sat down to eat at. I’ve given them two or three chances now, but this was the final straw. To begin, the food was “ok” at best. The food immediately arrived to our table, after we ordered, and there was maybe two other parties sitting in the place at the time, so this told me that it was all previously cooked/prepared, God knows how long before we received it. Our waitress forgot a bunch of our food, and I had to ask a few times to finally get what I ordered. Sadly; but, not to my surprise, given the energy and vibe of the place, the food was room temperature and soggy. The sushi tasted extremely fishy and spoiled. (I love sushi and always have, but this stuff is not meant for human consumption. It’d probably make pigs sick...) The first two times I was there, the food was okay, but this third time was unacceptable. I feel terribly sick and have been on the toilet for awhile since I got home. Even with all of what happened, it doesn’t compare to the amount of disrespect I received before paying for the bill. When I received the bill, I noticed everything was marked up 17%. As it turns out, our waitress took the liberty of giving herself a 17% tip without even asking me. If I wasn’t always so careful and observant with my spending, I would’ve been screwed out of ten bucks. I know it may not be much to everyone, but having someone try to steal that from me is huge. Especially coming from a “professional” establishment such as Kyoto Sushi in Eden Prairie. I confronted the waitress about the money she was trying to take from me and she tried to resolve it by yelling at me and telling me she only works for tips and that I have to pay her or she won’t have any money... After arguing for with her for ten minutes, she gave in and gave me my money back. Then when I ask to speak with a manager, she yells at me some more and tells me he’s not here today. Finally, she called him, but she sat on the phone screaming in Japanese for ten minutes until I said “This isn’t worth my time” and left. There isn’t anything else I can do, but try to help out everyone else that’s trying to get good Sushi/Habachi. If you care about the health of you and/or family, about your self-esteem and image, and most importantly(Main reason) they’re thieves!!! If you are not careful they might just slide an extra 20% or something on your bill. Use discretion when contemplating a good sushi place. Kyoto is disgraceful and I will be insisting that NONE of my friends and family ever go here again. Hope the 17% was worth it, lady, because you and your establishment are losing much, much more. The audacity of...
Read moreCame here last Saturday with 2 other people. It wasn't that busy as there was another few table that was there. We placed our order and about half an hour later the appetizers came out for me and my partner and the two sushi rolls that our friend only ordered. About 15 minutes later the server came back and asked if we wanted to order anything else. We said no as we were still waiting for for our sushi roll. About another 15 minutes went by and our sushi roll haven't even came out yet. We waved down the manager there and told them that we haven't received our sushi roll yet. The manager said that he will get our server. Our server came by and we told him that we haven't received our roll yet. He asked us what roll we got. We told him the few rolls that we got and he said that the machine malfunction and that it will take 5 minutes to bring out the roll. I told him no as it's been an hour and we haven't even received our rolls yet. The server said that he put in the order twice and that he have our rolls on the receipts. Just because the roll is on the receipts doesn't mean that the food is on our table that we have been waiting an hour for. At this point, we didn't want to wait anymore and they tried to charge us all you can eat price when we didn't even get all of our food. They said that they will fix it and have us pay for the food that we only got. They tried to double charge us twice for everything that we ordered when we only ordered 1 of everything. They went and fix that. No apologies whatsoever from the server or manager. Worse experience and last time we will ever go...
