We tried the breakfast. I really wanted to like it as I was excited for this place to open due to its location. However, unfortunately, I found it pretty mediocre and too little, especially for this price point.
Here are a few points that come to mind: The menu says halva, but there is no halva (nor any replacement for it) Sucuk in sucuklu yumurta is probably just 1 slice of sucuk, cut into very small cubes, I guess to make it look a lot (it is not) No hot foods other than eggs. Olives, cheeses, cucumber, tomato, jam etc, you can find them elsewhere too… There is nothing that makes the breakfast menu special. HOWEVER, their speciality seems to be the bakery items. When you enter, you see a whole bunch of colorful bakery items. Very cool. To demonstrate that, they give 2 quarter pieces of borek and simit. You’d expect it to be the best part of the meal since it’s their specialty. But no, they’re just some cold and stale pieces. Too little, too insignificant. The menu says 2-3 people but the food was for 1-1.5 people. The concept is not clear, it’s between self-service and full-service. The waiter brings the utensils, but not napkins or salt/pepper for example. Those are for you to get up and grab I guess. Not sure. I don’t mind doing my own work, just needs to be clear. We visited the place in the morning, it was calm, so I am not sure why the most seats were dirty. And so on…
A few suggestions for improvement: Give the whole square piece of borek, not just quarter pieces. Please heat it up properly so it’s hot and crunchy. Some Balkan places around give a MUCH larger, fresher, and more delicious boreks for the fraction of the price. Maybe add some fried vegetables; pepper, eggplant, potatoes, etc. as more hot options. Or just give more types of bakery items. Play to your strengths; bakery items and deserts, give some more, maybe a piece of baklava cut in 2. People will love it. If an item is missing, offer something else without us noticing it. Is the tea unlimited? I am not sure, I didn’t have the chance to drink more. If not, please make it unlimited. I am sure it won’t cost you that much and an average American will appreciate it. Think of unlimited water and coffee they give at pretty much everywhere. Oh also, do you give water too? We didn’t get any. If you’re going to keep all the above same, good for you, then just consider lowering the price. Or, there are many other decent options. Hell, I will go to an average diner and leave full and happy.
Thank you for your attention and congratulations on your...
Read moreWe have been regular visitors to Baklava Home ever since they first opened. I'd love to say that they hit a bullseye in meeting a huge need in the area; there are very few options for a delicious, high-quality breakfast where you can truly enjoy your morning and start the day right—and that makes all the difference. This is a place where the food is consistently delicious, and it's clear their distinct Mediterranean cuisine sets them apart. The hummus is extraordinary, and the breakfasts are absolutely mouth-watering, with generous portions that are perfect for sharing. The drinks are very good, and the bread is fantastic; you can find both sweet and savory options and leave feeling completely satisfied. However, it seems to me that they haven't fully grasped the importance of good customer service and attention. This part desperately needs polish so that patrons become regulars not just for the food, but for the exceptional service as well. No matter how great a restaurant's kitchen is, if it isn't matched by attentive and friendly service, customers will eventually tire of it and look for a similar spot. They have everything they need to grow and maintain popularity, not just in Edgewater, but to become a destination worth visiting regardless of...
Read moreI’ve given this business several chances because it’s very close to my home, but last night’s experience forces me to write a serious complaint. I ordered a red velvet cake that was said to be fresh, but it was completely different from any red velvet I’ve had before, extremely stale (I couldn’t even hold it with a fork) and the cream was curdled. I ate only a little because I was worried, but after I got home I felt a headache and then terrible stomach pain and diarrhea throughout the night. ( I am still not feeling well) I did not eat anything else, so I strongly suspect food poisoning. I’ve also noticed before that some desserts weren’t fresh. The service is horrible, every time tea comes warm instead of hot. Even after this bad experience we were friendly to staff. .This business would be great if you would really care about it. And please make fresh desserts on-site instead of importing them; people’s health is not something to risk. I hope you investigate this seriously and improve your food safety and...
