El Molcajete Cocina Mexicana — Restaurant in Edgewater

Just the worst. Guac tasted like it had been sitting in the fridge, tasted like refrigerator. The food was like a cafeteria, small portion, and COLD though how they managed that when they were so not busy I don't know. The cold steak was overcooked and really tough. Just horrible. $8 drink might have been a virgin, I think they forgot to add the alcohol. And the service sucked, we went in and stood there while they talked with each other and other guests. A lady finally came to seat us, she never even said a word. Just looked at us, stood there and stared at us in silence, until we asked for a table, and then took us to a table without a smile or a single word said. The table had a big sticky spot right in front of me, about the size of a dinner plate. I found out when my napkin got stuck in it. I had to wet a napkin and wipe the table. They were not busy at all so no excuse. Their website says they are open till 10 and they are only open until 9. And to top it all off their prices are absurd. For sure won't go back. Really regretting going. I have a stomach ache this morning, I'm sure from their food. Go to Mi Mexico in New Smyrna on the beachside if you want Mexican here. That place is great. This place, absolutely not. Does look like they spent a small fortune on decor. Mayb pick some of that up cheap at auction when they go out of business. Probably better check our credit statement this month and make sure they didn't double charge or anything. The only good thing I can say about this place is, the chips were not stale, but I'm betting we just got lucky with that one. Never were given a refill when they ran out before our food even came. Jeez. You know just because they're in a strip mall doesn't mean they have to suck. Look at Athens Greek here. That place is FIVE STAR with food to die for, and cheap! Should have gone there instead. Edit-it's been a month and the website still saying open till ten or eleven....

My son stops here frequently when in the Edgewater area for business.. he has brought home foods from here for me on several occasions.. With it being my birthday, he suggested we go for an early dinner.. which we did.. there were quite a few customers as it was still Happy Hour..we were were quickly seated, with menus and tortilla chips with salsa.. I ordered small Margarita on the rocks with salted rim.. he , a Corona beer.. both were icy cold! Friday nite…. Yes! Had a hot date tonight with a dashing younger man! Picked me up and off we zoomed northward up US hi-way 1 to a small town called Edgewater where we had a dinner reservation waiting… A true Mexican restaurant El Molcajete (pestle and Mortar) which is an implement found in every Mexican cocina… Service excellent, food outstandingly delicious!! Margarita definitely tasty and so delicious!! We chatted while devouring our food.., He ordered a Burrito..it was huge!..and he ate the whole thing!! Me .. my usual..Steak Fajita …without bell peppers!!! So melt in your mouth delicious!!! I tried, but only managed to eat half… the remainder will be lunch tomorrow! Will definitely...

The foods amazing service is not so hot. Came in for lunch on a Sunday it was almost completely empty and the sign said self Seating. Myself my bf and son grabbed a booth. It took about 10mins til someone came n took our drink order after that they were pretty attentive. However I ordered an appetizer and kids meal and 2 adult entrees. Like any normal place I'd assume my appetizer would be out first with the kids meal. After a very long wait all the food came out at once (which explains the wait) . My entree was also completely not what I ordered which was a steak entre off their favorites section and instead I got steak n shrimp fajitas... Def not what I ordered at all. Still delicious and at that point I was starved so i ate it anyway. Again food and drinks are beyond delicious but I'm not sure what or why the appetizer came out with the food and my order was so totally wrong. I'd def recommend I absolutely would go back bc it's so good but I'd definitely take the time to explain exactly what I wanted and to please bring the food in courses as is pretty standard for...
