We usually don't write reviews often but our experience at KAI Creamery was very uncomfortable and had poor customer service. My husband and I were excited to have some soft serve ice cream earlier this afternoon. However when we got the the counter to order, my husband asked for two separate flavors in a cup. Which we were told by the cashier that the two flavors he wanted could not be fixed because it does not come together as a paired swirl on their menu. We asked him if they could just put one flavor into the cup and add another flavor to the cup (just as you would at Sixteen Handles and Red Mango). The young cashier said it couldn't be done. Even though on their menu there was a clear picture of a menu option of ordering a large bowl of soft serve ice cream with 3 separate flavors (not in a swirl) meaning it could've been done but he was not willing to do so for us.
So my husband ordered one scoop, and so did I. As we asked for these simple requests, in a respectful tone, we noticed an older gentlemen (probably the store owner or manager), staring us down like he was assuming we were causing trouble. Just to give context, we are African American, the older gentlemen owner/store manager was Korean (I don't mean to take it here but it was pretty obvious his actions presented a fear towards us based on how we look). Feeling discomforted by his adamant stares. I stared back because he was making us feel uncomfortable. As we were paying for our ice cream, I noticed the owner walk to the back, and proceed to make a frantic call, while he was still watching us (mind you all we did was pay for our ice cream at that point). As my husband walked to the pick up counter to get our scoops, we saw the owner talking to security and still keeping his gaze on us. As we walked by the door to the KAI Creamery, the owner walked out just as we were walking by, looking frantic and still watching us. I don't know what was spoken to the security guards and the owner but I saw the guards just walk away.
In other words, our experience there was sadly a terrible one. Not the ice cream but the poor customer service and out right discrimination, for paying customers - who were not rude but just asking simple questions to make an order. I actually threw my ice cream away because the experience but a bad taste in my mouth. My hope is that the owner learns how to train his staff in customer service and treat every customer with respect. My husband and I forgive this owner and I pray God and Jesus will bless him with the gift of forgiveness, for we all need forgiveness and another chance. But we will not go back to...
Read moreIt's sad I have to give this place 3 stars. My partner and I came here in August to walk around Mitsuwa. We stopped for bubble tea. The matcha bubble tea my partner and I ordered here was the best matcha bubble tea we ever had! It wasn't too sweet, it tasted how matcha should taste. Unfortunately two less stars because of the customer service. The tall young guy behind the counter was not helpful at all. My partner and I looked at the menu and asked some questions. He looked zoned out and didn't give clear answers. After asking about taro and what the difference between flat lid and cone lid, I told him I wanted to order a large matcha bubble tea. He repeated the order as taro. I corrected him and said matcha. As I was about to pay, I noticed he still ringing it up as taro. My partner corrected him. We waited about 5 minutes for our order to be made. A young lady had over a bright purple drink to us. I asked her why the matcha looks like this. She said it's taro. Like what! The young boy had the nerve to say we ordered taro. We asked him one question about taro and somehow he was preoccupied with that. So yeah, we had to wait another 5 minutes for our order. My partner and I will be back to order another bubble tea because it was delicious. Hopefully better staff is working at...
Read moreThis shop is in the Mitsuwa Marketplace food court, and the market is another gem to visit. Lucky to visit on a weekday when there's a light crowd. Black sesame soft serve with chestnut Mont Blanc was very very yummy. Bit expensive but worth sharing with wifey and indulging a bit. Wifey had a hot black sesame latte which was also very tasty. Excellent dessert to chase after a flavorful meal of ramen and katsu platter from the same marketplace...
