First time back after reopening and it was incredibly disappointing. The food and service were both extremely poor even judging on a curve for a place newly reopening. We live three blocks away and were frequent customers (~every six to eight weeks) before the Covid-induced closure. I hope they can figure out how to be an acceptable dining experience because we have a lot of good memories of coming here. We are going to wait a long while for good word of mouth feedback before we will attempt it again.
We ordered malts to start and they came quickly and were good. Everything after that was a disaster. It took a little under an hour for most of our food to arrive after ordering. The restaurant was probably 70% full when we first sat down and got less busy from there, so no obvious reason why things were so slow other than perhaps staffing issues in the kitchen. During this wait, our waitress did not check in on our table a single time other than to deliver an egg salad sandwich for one of our party of five 30 minutes prior to the rest of the meals being brought to the table. The water that we asked for when first sitting down never came until my daughter tracked down the waitress after 45 minutes and asked again for her to bring some water. She then brought two glasses of water and asked if we wanted water for everyone.
After waiting nearly an hour, we got our three burgers and corndog in addition to the egg salad sandwich that had been sitting there for 30 minutes. The corndog was McDonalds coffee pre-lawsuit level hot and my daughter had to wait ten minutes before she could even attempt to eat it. The three burgers were hockey pucks, so scorched and overdone that my kids picked at them but ultimately ended up largely eating other food when we got home. The buns for the burgers had a staleness to them and were mediocre at best. The quality of the fries I can't comment on because our order of fries never came. Our waitress mentioned that they would follow shortly after our food, but she never brought them and never checked if someone else brought them. Eventually after we were done picking at our food, I went and found our waitress standing at the counter in the other room and asked for our check. I had to ask her to remove the fries from the check since they never came and she had no idea of that fact. Among the things I also noticed as we waited an hour for our food: (1) they are obviously having staffing shortages as empty tables took a while to be cleared, (2) the length of time that it took for our food to come out was not unique to our table as other tables around us had similar waits for their food to come out, and (3) our waitress was obviously new to serving and while she was a nice enough young lady, she had no idea what she was doing, which strongly suggests a lack...
Read moreI used to love Convention Grill. I raved to my friends about how good it is. We went for lunch today. The parking lot had about 5 cars in it and the restaurant was about 1/3 full. My one star is for the service, mostly. I was hungry for the chicken noodle soup so that's what I ordered. My friends opted for burgers and fries. The burgers and fries arrived in a reasonable amount of time. The waitress said she'd be right back with my soup. Seriously, 15 to 20 minutes later she returned with my soup and said that it took longer because the soup was in a different kitchen than the burgers. What does that mean? My friends were almost finished with their food by the time my soup arrived and I had eaten french fries while waiting. Right before I was about to eat my first spoonful, my friend told me to wait and she pulled a long black hair out of the soup spoon. Just then, the waitress returned to our table and saw what was happening and asked where we found the hair and we told her it was in my soup. She quickly offered to replace the soup. 10 minutes later she brought me another bowl. The waitress was friendly but she didn't offer any service recovery. My friends told me the cost of the soup should have been taken off the bill as a form of apology. I did not ask and it was not offered. A better waitress would have either comped it on her own or asked her manager if she could do it. My friends said the burgers were OK. The fries were pretty good though. It was a very...
Read moreI was at the convention Grill this past Monday, July 28 2025 At lunchtime and was disappointed. First, this is the first time I’ve been there since the Parking changed and I asked the Host about it and she basically ignored me. The waitress was a was a bit more Helpful, but when I want to use the app, it wouldn’t let me finish the transaction.Did I need a Passcode or something? Also, the hostess asked if I wanted to sit at the counter and only grudgingly gave me a table When I said no and Was sour for the rest of my visit. The server was good and she was friendly.
I have two complaints about the meal. First, you used to have cherry Coke with actual cherry flavor and and I was Told that you didn’t have this anymore because you couldn’t get the cherry flavoring. This seems like a lame excuse as this was a differentiating point for me. Second, The quality of The fries seems to have gone downhill. They were very short like they were the bottom of a batch And it seems like they were cooked twice because they were very dark and oily. You used to have some of the best fries around, I have been back there since you reopened a few times and this been a consistent problem To be fair to the staff, you only had one hostess And one server for a full crowd, and they seem to be able to keep up with the orders and keeping the place clean. I’m sure I will be back but I’m hoping for better results next time. Thanks. A...
