There really aren't that many places that serve acai bowls in Seattle, or even Washington, and so it excites me to find places that actually do make them because I love myself a super fresh and delicious acai bowl.
I wanted to check this place out, and see what they're all about before driving down to school. Originally I was just gonna get an acai bowl, but I ended up also getting an avocado toast, and a prosciutt of happiness just because they looked super good, and it would help hold me over for the day.
Man, when we were waiting for our food, and it was getting prepared, I could just smell the beautiful aroma of whatever they were making, even through my mask. It smelt so heavenly. I was just thinking, if the smell is anything like the flavors of the food, then I'm in for a real treat.
Anyways, when we got our food, and opened up the box, it looked so beautiful, and so aesthetically pleasing, but also looked very appetizing.
First off, the prosciutt of happiness. This was probably my favorite dish of the morning, but it was a close race witg the avocado toast. But, I really love the name of the dish. Anyways, that butter croissant that they used as the bread was phenomenal. I really didn't expect the actual croissant to be so flaky, buttery, and crisp. It definetly set the bar for the whole sandwich, but also on it's own, the croissant would be really good, and yall know I love some good croissants. Every other component in the sandwich was super fresh, and there were so many different textures, and aromas and flavors that all worked together in harmomy to make a really solid sandwich. You have the flakiness from the croissant, bitterness and frehsness from the arugala, and a creaminess and that pungent richness from the garlic, and herbiness from the basil. For my liking, there was a bit much aioli and so I just got a huge mouthful of cream. Just a lot going on, but a lot going good for the sandwich. Then of course, the prosciutto and that poached egg! The prosciutto added that salty component the sandwich needed to be complete, but that poached egg! The egg really elevated the dish, and finished what was already a solid sandwich off even better. It really was poached perfectly though, and, oh man, that egg yolk oozed out and coated everything (even my hand ) in a luscious golden sauce. It was delicious, and was quite delightful.
Next, the avocado toast. I mean, this was a nother dish that was executed extremely well. But that walnut bread they used was SO crisp and crunchy, and also toasted to perfection. Everything else also worked in harmomy, plus you also have several different textures and flavors, but what I love most was the pop of color from the watermelom radish. Yes, it also added a freshnessnand a crunch but it made the avocado toast look more beautiful. Then of course the poached egg on top was also perfect and oozed all that glorious and luscious egg yolk all over like a luxurious sauce. Overall, really delicious as well.
Finally, the acai bowl, "the classic..." To be honest, I wasn't a huge fan of the acai bowl, and I really thought that was what they specialized in. It really could've been better in a couple places. I mean, it did taste very fresh, and all the fresh fruit were very fresh as well. The thing is, the actual acai part had an overpowering banana flavor, and I couldn't necessarily taste the acai. Also, I'm not a big fan with the acai part is liquidy, I really like it when it has that sorbet texture and you can kind of eat it like ice cream, but again that's just preference. I still finished it, but it kind of disappointed me because it's so hard to find a good acai bowl up in the PNW. If the toast and sandwich weren't so amazing, then I'm not sure if I would come here again.
Overall, this is a really solid place, in a nice area, but of course there could be slight room for improvement, but I will definitely be checking this place out before school if it weren't for those...
Read moreWOW, bad customer service.. when I entered the cafe I was not greeted to start; I then looked at the menu and the lady said what can I get for you; I said what I wanted and then she quickly typed it into the register without asking me if I wanted anything else. I ordered two simple things, a bowl and a muffin to be warmed.. there were other people that came in behind me and I noticed one of them was able to be served their bowl a cup of coffee with an avocado toast (BEFORE ME) (ALSO SEVERAL PEOPLE WERE LOOKING IRRITATED FROM LATE FOODS) Then another person was able to to be served their pastries.. After waiting for over 20 plus minutes, the guy came out to the back with my bowl, smashed it against the counter and dropped coconut flakes all over the place; he quickly pulled it back into the back room for 3 seconds & put it back on the counter with no apologies or anything. Then the lady at the front said oh it's fine.. then Oh yeah you wanted the muffin correct? Do you want it warmed up she asked???
The acai bowl was subpar, it lacked freshness fruits & what ever other toppings should have been there. It was generic & lacked ingredients
The muffin should have been warmed up and ready to be passed out within the first 5 minutes.. making the bowl again makes no sense. It took over 20 minutes and why they were able to go help other people that came in after me is mind-boggling
This is my second & last time attempting to try the place & the 1st time was pretty similar with them being slow & not so friendly
If you're going to be in a cafe, restaurant, customer service type of environment. You should definitely consider hiring people who are able to cater in communication, great attitudes with smiling faces, timeliness, quality etc..quite possibly even team work
I honestly don't know how that place is still in business with how minimal the portions are, how pricey they are granted they have to pay rent in Edmonds, how the majority of the items on the menu are overexaggerated & no so out-going staff
Either way, I'm simply being transparent based on my experiences traveling...
Read moreI don't usually write reviews for establishments, but after my last meal at Jaiiya I felt it necessary. This is a new, small cafe in the Westgate neighborhood of Edmonds that will not disappoint. They serve Umbria Coffee in all forms (including some well done pour over), Acai bowls which are delicious and various other baked items. The star of the show for me is their sandwiches. One would not expect to find this kind of quality of food and flavor at a new suburban cafe, (yes there are others in the area but this one is different) but at Jaiiya you will find just that.
My croissant sandwich had prosciutto, arugula, poached egg, cheese, a special citrus/garlic aioli and heirloom tomatoes. I'm not saying you cant get that other places... but after dining at various spots around Edmonds over the last 15 years I promise you this is better. I suspect it has something to do with the ingredient quality but the balance of delicate flavors, how they worked together subtly and perfectly, is something to be envied.
The only downside is a relatively small menu. If you are a picky eater who doesn't enjoy Acai bowls you may find your options limited. I believe that the seasonality and limited nature of the menu are part of the reason the food was so exceptional. Even if you don't find anything to eat you will enjoy the coffee.
Jaiiya Cafe is quickly becoming my favorite spot in the...
