Updated 02/05/24 This is my farewell review of Grotto Pizza. Today, I received the unfortunate news that's a customer complained about my service dog. Grotto has been very respectful and kind to me over the last 2 years. Everybody here loves Beauty, my service dog. Yet due to select complaints from some customers, Grotto has made the decision to disallow service to me for dine in with her. It's a big ole punch in the gut. Not just the heart. Yet I understand and respect their decision. When it comes to business, making money is forefront and working with all walks of civilization is second, at best. When a party of 8 decides to complain about a single guest and his service dog, the business will usually side where more money is spent. Though I am a twice weekly regular, spending 20-40$/week. That just doesn't compare to a party of 8 2x a month spending 80$+ per visit. So though the law is the law and service dogs are supposed to be allowed. I will not be pressing the issue. This is because of the kind and friendly nature of everyone who works here and the calm accommodating atmosphere that I've had the pleasure of experiencing.
About the food: The fact that the best pizza in the valley is offered at an affordable price at least 1x a week and their wing specials are very fairly priced and nice and big certainly helps contribute to this as well. Not to mention the coffee kicks! A decent aroma (when fresh and a little burnt when not fresh, the staff will inform you when it's a fresh pot and make a fresh one upon request regardless) and strong robust flavour with a pick me up that lasts well into the night yet which is unconquerable with a few Turkey slices before bed if you need to sleep. The soups vary and are a nice mix of noodles, veggies and meats. The only one I dont like: the French onion soup leaves a fair chunk of room for improvement. it's just not consistent nor properly made. Too thick, bread is funny and the flavor doesn't quite hit. Overall I would recommend Grotto pizza. Especially for regulars looking for a deal. The staff really care, get along nicely with one another and dont make mistakes. I've never had attitude nor a cold shoulder. though sometimes stress is a factor due to personal concerns and how busy it is, that's a natural thing and never truly affects the overall experience. So with all of the above said... It has been a good ride. Friendly, tasty and easy on the wallet. I'm sure beauty will miss herefrensdiand some of the customers will certainly miss her too!
Original review The Monday dine in special is a godsend for people on a budget. It's a full, no skimp pizza (with a extra topping included for no extra charge) fit for 1 or 2 people that won't leave you lacking and wanting more. Without it I (and my dog and cat) wouldn't be able to enjoy this delicious pizza weekly. It means alot to me that Grotto decides to keep this special where it ended others because it's essentially a nod to the poor that we are still recognized, respected and appreciated by Grotto and its staff. It also allows me to leave a better tip than I otherwise would have. I definitely recommend eating in on Mondays and ordering...
Read moreFirst time visiting this establishment, and from the moment I was greeted, the service and food were amazing. The server greeted and sat us and was the most pleasant and inviting lady I have had to serve me in a while. The first view of the menu and i was taken aback by the fact that they served nachos made with chopped chicken. Well, being that I don't eat red meat, I had to try them and was blown away at the portion size as well as the platter itself. Delicious and fairly priced, it doesn't even begin to describe how much I enjoyed them. On to the entrée I decided to go for the fettuccine with alfredo and grilled chicken. So they make their own homemade alfredo sauce, almost unheard of in the commercial food industry these days. The meal was truly amazing, tasted fresh, and didn't have that funky prepackaged after taste. Absolutely delightful. My wife had the ziti and red sauce with mushrooms, looked and tasted delicious she had no complaints. I tried it, and it was quite superb, not soggy or undercooked the right amount of bite and texture. After the meal was done, we received the bill and thought it would be higher than my hairline, it wasn't. It was well below what a meal that delicious should have been. Fair price, good service a definite for those who want to enjoy a great meal and not feel the wallet get thinner just by looking at the menu. Will be...
Read moreOn Wednesday evening January 23 my girlfriend and nephew stopped in for dinner. We have been here before and the service was let's say ok. On this night it was pretty bad. It started with our waitress Carrie spilling soup on our nephew. Thank god the soup wasn't all that hot which is an issue in of itself. Now, apologies are all good and appreciated ,however she never offered to take the soup off the bill or for that matter take care of the entire bill. What if that soup had been hot? I can guarentee it would have cost grotto a hell of a lot more than our $30 bill. My girlfriends hoagie came out the complete opposite of what she asked. Asked for more mayo. Mayo comes out in a small cup and no way to spread it on the bun. We never received refills for our drinks. She pretty much was no where to be found. She did however take an order from the table behind us and looked over at us. I guess the empty cups were invisible. We finally get the check and I walk up the front to pay. The girl at the counter ignores us twice while I'm standing there trying to pay for a meal that should have been free. I'm not sure what's going on in Edwardsville but I never had an issue at the other locations,so my guess would have to be that the management is really poor in Edwardsville and really should be addressed. Its giving the grotto franchise a...
