OK, so El Centro is not really known as a tourist destination, much less a foodie hot spot; but with CRAZY GOOD food like this, maybe that will change.
I am in El Centro for business and one of the locals recommended I try D’Poly. That was an excellent choice. I’ve been all over México and I can say without a doubt, D’Poly could easily hold its own against any taqueria in México.
I ordered a Mezcalita which is the more mature and interesting version of a margarita. College kids chug margaritas: grown-up savor Mezcalitas! The maracuya (aka passion fruit for all the gringos) Mezcalita was ON FIRE … so smoky and spicy and with a bitter sweetness from the maracuya. 100% DELICIOSO!
I then moved on to three different tacos: fish, carnitas, and lengua. The fish taco was perfectly fried in a light batter that was actually crunchy with every bite and the fish inside was moist and sweet. I added the house made sauce which looks like a mix of ketchup and mayo but tastes WAY BETTER, and every bite transported me to Ensenada … SO FRICKIN GOOD! Easy 10 out of 10.
I then moved on to the carnitas which was also incredible: it had a tiny bit of crunch (like it’s supposed to from browning the pork) and a rich porcine flavor, a wee bit like bacon. I give it a 9 out of 10, only because the meat could have used a tad more juiciness.
Finally, I ate the lengua and this one was a tiny bit disappointing as there was a more mild flavor than I am used to, so it lacked the very rich flavor I was expecting. However, it was still moist and, with a medium salsa added, I devoured all of it. I give this taco a 7 of 10.
Add in the fresh plate of salsas and cucumber and cabbage and overall, D’Poly gets a solid 9 of 10.
Add in this joint’s very cool vibe and this is a great place to eat alone (full food service at the bar) or bring a date.
Do yourself a favor if you are anywhere near El Centro (it’s only a couple minutes off I-8) and get your taco on at...
Read moreWe went to celebrate my mom’s birthday on Sept 6. We had a party of 14, and our server Jessica was not only great, but her personality was the exact energy we needed out of our experience. She was fun, funny, super personable, and attentive. She even made a bet with my mom on a coin flip to get her to have another beer! She was exceptional. The food was amazing, and the atmosphere made me think I was in San Diego. I had the chile gueritos with the asada and a watermelon margarita and both were absolutely delicious. The presentation of the margarita was spot on, and was a perfect balance of sweet and tangy. Prior to our reservation, I had called to up our number from 10 to 14 and it was no problem to accommodate that. Leo called just to confirm the total number and get an idea of where we wanted our table to be located, and he was also very nice and reassured me that the requests I had woukd be made. I have been in the industry for 15 years and I am big on service and a pleasant experience, and D’Poly did not disappoint. My mom had a wonderful birthday and everyone there had a great time and all couldn’t say how much we adored our server. Thank you Jessica, Leo, and the rest of the staff at D’Poly for making my moms birthday one to remember. Definitely will be back to try out more from...
Read moreBELOW ONE STAR. THEY RECYCLE FOOD. They serve you food other customer left. If you order an asada taco you might find a piece of chicken too.
I arrived on my own, and nobody greeted me. They ignored me for 10 minutes. I sat down and when one waitress went to my table just dropped the menu, and didn’t ask me if I wanted something to drink. Minutes later another waitress took my drink order. I was waiting for a friend. When my friend arrived he ordered 2 tacos and I ordered one asada taco and one carne en su jugo. My asada taco had a piece of chicken inside plus lots of fat and on top of everything it was cold. The carne en su jugo had a piece of tortilla floating, and it wasn’t me who did it. Obviously they recycle the food in D’Polys. Honestly I got sick of my stomach the whole day with diarrhea.Reusing food and serving it to more than one customer goes against all the health department rules and basic health values. How dare D’Polys do that ? And believe that they have good food? D’Polys food is NOT SAFE, IS NOT TASTY at all. Hopefully people in the Imperial Valley start realizing their health is at risk, and again IS NOT TASTY and on top of everything...
