Jack in the Box — Restaurant in El Cerrito

To Whom It May Concern,

On Sunday 7/13/2025 around 130 pm, my mother and I visited Jack in the Box store #572, where we were assisted by an employee named Ana. We placed our order through the drive-through and paid with a $100 bill. The employee informed us that she needed to verify the authenticity of the bill, but this check was not done in our presence.

When she returned, she stated that the bill was counterfeit. My mother explained that the bill was genuine and had come directly from her bank. The employee then contacted the police, which my mother agreed to because we were confident that the bill was valid.

When the police arrived, they did not acknowledge or speak with us, only with the staff member. We stepped outside to try to explain the situation further and pointed out that the bill the police had in their possession was not the same $100 bill we had provided. We requested that they review the security cameras, as we felt there may have been dishonest activity taking place at this location.

This experience was extremely embarrassing for us and, more importantly, left us feeling targeted and discriminated against due to our race. We believe we were not treated with fairness or respect and are deeply concerned by how this situation was handled.

We will be filing a report with the Better Business Bureau regarding this incident.

Was shopping nearby (ROSS, Skecher's outlet, Walgreens, Safeway) and stopped by for a snack--tacos & curly fries. Jack location is behind a Church's Fried chicken along Cutting--a little hidden. Ordered via mobile app for counter pickup. Food was still hot but burped fried food afterwards--deep fryer oil may be old & reused. Found a seat with an outlet and plugged in my cell but outlet not working. Fortunately had a powerbank battery and watched some videos while I ate. WIFI very slow so I just used my own cell service (Sprint). Place not too busy even during lunch. They refilled my water bottle with ice water when I left. You need to ask to be buzzed in for restroom. Average small Jack in the Box but it was at least clean and convenient. Worse service ever!!!! I just got out of the hospital and wanted to grab something quick to eat before I go home. I pull up and the man tells me that there is a system update and it'll be 10-15 minutes until we can order so I wait. So at 4:15am I pull back thru to order. I asked for a cheese & egg croissant he tried to charge me for a sausage croissant which cost way more then what I wanted then said he don't know what I'm talking! So therefore he doesn't know his own menu, so I order 2 taco's and go to the window he never comes to get my money or nothing. I'm honking trying to figure out am I'm going to pay for my food. I have never ever been so disappointed at this place. I won't be going for a while. I drove all the way to another Jack n the box the only place I can grab a quick bit to eat so late.
