Mariscos La Palma — Restaurant in El Monte

Had a horrible experience at this place just yesterday 7/27/23. We rented the hall the restaurant provides for our mothers after funeral services. It was suppose to be ready by 1pm when we got there a little after 1pm they were barley setting up. Of course they had excuse after excuse to why it wasn’t ready. Then some of the table cloths that were used were either dirty or had holes on them. I complained to one of the workers told her about the table cloths handed it to her and then this old lady who works there came up to me giving excuses about why they were late on having the hall ready. Then she has the audacity to tell me that the table cloths complained about we’re not dirty. Please I saw it with my own eyes and she was like come with me and I’ll prove to you that it wasn’t dirty. I told her I saw what I saw and told her to walk away and I didn’t want to hear her. Food was horrible they salads they served were so nasty and over cooked they also forgot one of the main dishes. They eventually brought it out about 45 min after most people had already been served. They didn’t offer any apologies no responsibility just excuses. Men’s restroom was dirty with hair like if someone had shaved in there. We had to tell them like 5 times to put up the air conditioner cuz it was so hot in there. The outside leading to the hall smelled like if there was a dead animal somewhere disgusting. Oh they offered my sister two free tequila shots for the inconvenience REALLY!!!!! Two shots! For the money we paid this was ridiculous they should’ve gave us a credit on the amount we were charged for this place. Never in my life will I be going to this restaurant or recomending it to anyone. Like I said horrible experience and excuse after excuse you can tell it’s all about the money for them because they didn’t give two sh@ts about our concerns. We rented Mariscos La Palma venue for our baby shower and had a terrible experience. From the start, the venue was very dirty — bathrooms were not stocked, toilet paper was left on top of toilets, zero toilet liners. Bathroom was never stocked. Cheap plastic dirty tables, and mismatched dirty chairs. They were still cleaning and picking up during our paid rental time. Completely unprofessional.

The staff was basically just the owners family member, and one hired worker — and it showed. The promised white tablecloths were late, mismatched, and stained. When I pointed it out, Danny (the supposed owner) brushed it off saying, “but they are white,” offering no solution. No quality, no professionalism.

Lighting was another issue. I asked for the ceiling lights to stay low and neutral for an elegant atmosphere. Instead, he switched them to a harsh hot pink club look — after I specifically said no hot pink. It was our event, not his. The TV screen we asked to be cleared of his logo was only changed when he felt like it.

To make matters worse, Danny hung around the whole night. He forced us to end the music early at 2 AM (despite our agreement for 3 AM), yet still posted the musicians on his Instagram with his logo in the background to make his venue look good.

And finally, the drinks served at the bar had fruit flies. When mentioned, they made excuses instead of offering replacements or refunds.

This venue lies, has no quality control, no professionalism, and zero respect for clients. A good business owner takes feedback to improve — this one did the opposite. Avoid this place...

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. Renting from Mariscos La Palma was hands down one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had. The entire venue was a disaster before we even rented it — dirty floors, unkept spaces, and absolutely no attention to detail. It felt like no one cared to prepare the space at all.

To make matters worse, the staff was extremely low and clearly lazy about doing their jobs. Drinks even came out with bugs inside of them, which is beyond unacceptable and disgusting. That alone should tell you how careless they are about cleanliness and professionalism.

On top of that, I personally walked into the kitchen and was shocked at what I saw — roaches crawling around, dirty conditions, and the pans and pots they were serving food from were filthy before even being used. Worst of all, anyone could just walk into the kitchen, which is completely unprofessional and unsafe.

The so-called “owner” Danny is incredibly unprofessional, rude, and acts like he’s doing you a favor when you’re literally paying him. His brother, who is apparently supposed to help run things, was sloppy and only added to the mess instead of fixing it.

Overall, this place is a nightmare to deal with — unorganized, dirty, and completely unprofessional from top to bottom. Save yourself the stress, embarrassment, and wasted money. There are plenty of better venues out there that actually care about...
