La Barca Restaurantes — Restaurant in El Monte

Very discouraging because at one time I thought very highly of La Barca. But after our previous visit, it was rather disappointing. The reason for my visit was because I was in the mood for a shrimp cocktail but when my guests meals were brought out, the waitress advised us that she will be out shortly with my cocktail. About 10 minutes later she came out and informed us that the cooks just informed her that they were out of the type of shrimp that is used for cocktails. She offered me some breaded shrimp or shrimp scampi. Another 10 minutes went by.... the waitress brought the shrimp scampi out and I was disappointed again. The shrimp was overcooked because it was rubbery. At this point, my guests had their meals but from waiting so long as a courtesy to me; there food became cold. Towards the end of our meals, I asked for our bill which also took about15 minutes to retrieve. I expected a discount due to the inconvenience that was caused. There was no discount until I asked and all we received was a $6.00 discount for our inconvenience.... First of all, they are super unorganized with seating people. You have to keep asking them to seat you, otherwise they’ll start seating anyone who walks in after you. Just be prepared for that. When we finally got seated the food took forever to get to us. However, it was surprisingly worth the wait! My husband had the goat birria that came with rice and beans along with juicy and flavorful meat. They serve it with homemade corn tortillas, always a major plus for Mexican restaurants. I got combination-#2 I believe. One red enchilada, a chicken flauta, and a quesadilla. The quesadilla was a fried corn quesadilla. I wasn’t expecting that but I was not complaining, it was delicious. All of the food was pleasantly flavorful except the beans. They had a funky flavor and I’m guessing it was from the container they store them in? I couldn’t quite pinpoint what that funky flavor was but they were obviously not fresh. They also give chips and red tomato based salsa. Also, their horchata was awful! I 've been going to the restaurant for quite sometime and never had a bad experience since last weekend when I asked for the restaurant speciality carne en su jugo supposely, I had the plate many times before and actually thats the only thing i like from there , this time it was so bad no soup, dry so I asked the owner (manager) to please exchange my order cause it was not the way it was.suppose to be, he told me 'I will check it up for you' but he never really went to the table and checked it, my plate was already cold and so dry and decided to get up and find him again and finally he went to checked my plate and insteaf of resolving the matter he told me that i had already eaten part of it and he asked the waitress if thats the way it was served but of course she said no!
