Must try! This Peruvian-Mexican restaurant is owned by the same family as Don Carbon which is located on Mesa St and attached to a Don Carbon building. It looked like Amar could use seating of the Don Carbon it's attached to! Went for late lunch on a friday and they were packed, parking was the same. The ambiance was fresh with wood tones and plants everywhere. The food was so delicious words could not do justice. We tried empanadas that come with salsa on the side that was so good! The Lomo Saltado was so filling, the tenderloin was perfectly seasoned with roasted onions and tomato that was absolutely delicious. It comes on top of fries which got soggy from the tenderloin and tomato juices, and accompanied by a pyramid of jasmine rice. Also, tried the Arroz Chaufa Mixto which is wok fried rice with shrimp chicken and beef. We had the Chicha Morada drink which was recommended by our waiter and originates from the Andean region of Peru. It is made from dried purple corn and mixed with pineapple and spices, it was a slightly sweet taste with the tiniest bit of a spice kick to it. Reminded me of Jamaica. For dessert, we tried the popular Maracuya Cheesecake with is Cheesecake flan with a top layer of passion fruit and Suspiro Limeno which tasted like a dulce de leche custard with meringue on top. There was a small birthday party and they played Las Mañanitas over the speakers for them which was so cool of them to do. The service was good and appreciated multiple people checking up on us. Highly recommend you try this restaurant and can already tell they will need to find a bigger building or open another elsewhere as it has high potential!

Food was great! I went with someone who used to live in Peru and he was pleased with the dishes available. The restaurant doesn't have starters or appetizers in their menu so we ordered the Aguachiles Enamorados as a "starter." The dish was delicious - very flavorful and had a great citrus flavor. I was a bit skeptical about raw shrimp but I was pleasantly surprised. For the main courses, we ordered Lomo Saltado and the Huancaina Truffle Pasta. The Truffle pasta was amazing! The taste of the Huancaina sauce was phenomenal. Now, I was told the way the dish was served was not truly Peruvian because the grilled chicken (see picture) is traditionally not served on top of the pasta as is ; rather it is mixed with the pasta and sauce, but it was probably served as is to catch the eye. Unfortunately, the Lomo Saltado lacked flavor. The beef tenderloin was dry and a bit overcooked. It may have been our fault since we ordered it medium well, but the flavor should have still been there. The place is a bit small and even though it's first come first served, they will not seat you during peak times if it's only two of you and they have tables open outside that can seat four to six customers. There is only four or five tables inside that can seat for two. We had to wait until one was free even though there were bigger tables available outside. Their drink menu is very limited, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, so wasn't too thrilled about that. Their prices are a bit on the higher side but not overly steep. I would definitely go back and try other menu items.

I’ve come to this location multiple times in the past couple of years. I always get the same thing which is the camarones pasión, which are crispy shrimp with fries and a sauce on the side. I got this dish this time and the awful quality was completed unexpected. The shrimp were burnt, with the fried batter half cooked, almost raw and falling off the shrimp. The fries were soggy and undercooked. The only highlight was the spicy sauce which made the fries tolerable. I told the server that the shrimp looked very off and he went away for about 10 minutes, came back and stated that the cook “used flour” to cook the shrimp, which I mean, I don’t know why he told me that since the shrimp looked very unappealing. At this point I had already waited 20 minutes for my fish, another 10 for the server to come back, and he told me that they could make my dish again, which would add another 20 minutes of waiting. I denied this as my partner already had his plate and I was not going to wait more time to get my food. I didn’t end up eating the shrimp as they tasted like they were boiled and then smothered in the batter until they were burnt. I blame the kitchen and management in this scenario as the server was very polite and appeared busy with other patrons, but to have the dish pass through the initial inspection ready to go that way is very disappointing. I won’t be back for some time despite being a fan of this establishment prior.

This was the 1st time trying out this establishment (August16) and it was NOT a good experience. To start its a smaller venue and offers indoor and outdoor covered patio seating, the place itself is modern and well decorated. We were told that we had to sit at the bar due to them having no tables available, which was odd for a Tuesday which one would think is a slow day but they did have some poetry reading event that day. We were advised that once a table became available we would be relocated, so we agreed. We went ahead and had our drink orders taken and proceeded to place the order for food due to the fact that the waitresses seemed to be busy and getting her to come back in a timely manner might take a while. So after the order was taken we had to wait almost 20 min to get just one plate delivered and other 10 min for plate 2 and then we were offered a table outside, plate 3 still had not shown up by this time and keep in mind this is a party of 3 people so we waited for the last plate to come in to eat TOGETHER, the other 2 plates that were delivered are sitting untouched and getting cold ( salmon plate and Huancaina pasta). After waiting 10 min more we asked the status of plate 3 which was a Lomo Saltado and the waitress said she thought it had been delivered. She came back and advised that plate 3 had been given to someone else and a new one would be made but its a 15min delay. So we proceeded to start eating the delived plates as they were now cold at this point. Moral of the story.....the kitchen is in disarray they are not able to have the food ready for EVERYONE in that party to eat at the same time! Our meals were brought tonus stager amd i am sure NO ONE would appreciate this when eating with family. I can't say it was because of lack of employees, they seem to have more than enough and some were just hanging out at the register idle. We were given a 20% discount for the trouble but IDK I feel it was not enough. One thing I will say is 2 of the 3 plates are reasonably priced, the Huancaina pasta is over priced at 23.00 for what I recieved which was a small plate, it looked similar to the portion size of a entree side plate. Taste was good on all 3 plates, I will advise that if your don't like heavy condiments ie black pepper spices etc. It may not be your thing. So when going to this establishment pack your PATIENCE and make sure you have time to burn because your order...

Let me start by saying my family and I have been here multiple times throughout this year! My little brother and I had become obsessed with this place and were constantly making the drive to be served a delicious meal!! In my opinion, all the other visits we've made definitely a 5 star meal and experience! And I will definitely be visiting again just to give it one last shot! Because I would hate to leave this review at a three star. So we ended up here on Labor Day, excited to show my mom one of my favorite restaurants, we decided to have a late lunch here. First impressions, nothing had changed, quaint and clean. Once we got seated, there were flies everywhere. They didn't bother us too much but then came the food.... The flies were everywhere as we were eating. In my hair, in my food and I'm surprised I didn't swallow one as I ate! Lol It was extremely annoying. It was also something obvious that the staff chose to ignore. As far as the service, for only being a total of two families in the restaurant, we definitely felt ignored by our initial server. Then suddenly he disappeared and we were left with two other staff members who took over our table. They were attentive but we had already finished up our meal. So we didn't need much more at that point. Food... the food was just not what it use to be. Idk if they didn't have the head chef there... honestly, I have no clue how to run a restaurant but something was off. I ordered the caldo de camaron and it was literally just broth and 10ish shrimp. Nothing else. I ordered the fish tacos because I just couldn't believe how the soup had no substance. I've ordered the tacos in the past and have never had an issue. To my surprise, the tacos weren't good either! It seemed like they used old oil or over fried them as the pieces were dark and not golden and they drowned the taco in the mayo sauce. Ugh, honestly, it's so sad for paying for food that sucks. Plain and simple. Service was poor and food lacked in so many ways. Based off of this last visit I will be hesitant to head back and definitely hesitant to recommend. The hostess was kind enough to give us another soup to go. She did her best to correct the problem. I pray they rid...

I recently visited your restaurant while on vacation in the El Paso area with my wife and her family. During our trip, we explored parts of New Mexico, Texas, and Mexico. It was a wonderful experience overall, and as someone from the Ancash region of Peru, I wanted to treat my partner and her family to an authentic and exquisite Peruvian dining experience. I had heard great things about your establishment and was excited to share a part of my heritage with them.

We had what initially seemed like a pleasant evening at your restaurant—enjoying food, drinks, and dessert. However, not long after we left, my wife began to feel extremely ill. On the car ride home, her condition worsened; her color changed, and she became violently sick upon arriving at our lodging. She was unable to move and had to be taken to the hospital. Our vacation was cut short, and we spent the remaining time dealing with the aftermath.

We were later informed that she had suffered from food poisoning—specifically from contaminated fish consumed at your restaurant.

I called and left a message explaining the situation and requested contact from a manager, along with my phone number. Unfortunately, I have yet to receive a response.

This experience was not only traumatic but also deeply embarrassing. I wanted to honor my culture and share its rich cuisine, but instead, your restaurant delivered a disgraceful representation. The lack of accountability and communication since the incident shows a troubling absence of professionalism and care.

I am asking—again—to be contacted by management to address this issue. I hope your team takes this seriously, not only for the sake of my family, but for the safety of your...
