On a Friday night during the dinner hour, the place was pretty quiet. Unprofitably quiet. A few old timers were shooting pool and there were electronic dart boards available. Ample TV's were hung on the walls. So, yes, it has all the makings of a basic U.S. sports bar. It appeared to have potential but then the wheels fell off. The dining area was L-shaped with both far ends having a bar seating. I ordered a donedtic tap which took 10 minutes to arrive. The bartender had to get it from the other bar area maybe 30 feet away. As I waited it became all too evident that this was a place for regulars, not new customers. Three pool tables were in use but only one of the customers appeared to be drinking from the bar (others brought in their own koozies). Staff members knew the regulars and maintained conversations with them about ownership, other staff members and such. When the kitchen staff weren't busy, they too would come out and talk to staff or the regulars. I ordered another 10 minute domestic beer at which time I realized the tap did not need to be changed. It was being brought from the other bar, 30 feet away. A couple came in and ordered their usual food and beverages and more gossip ensued. I ordered the fish and chips which were underwhelming due to having come as frozen battered seacubes dropped into a deep fryer and served on a plastic basket and a sheet of wax paper. Both the fish and fries were saved by tartar sauce which I am sure hailed from a gallon jug. An obnoxious regular sat at the end of the bar cussing and yelling. Even the regulars seemed shocked by her rantings and loudness. When I settled out, I mentioned to the bartender that the atmosphere may benefit if the person at the end of the bar were a little less boisterous. Her response, "there is no quieting that one down." The world became much quieter and friendlier once I left this poorly...
Read moreWe stopped in El Paso for the night on our way home from Santa Fe, and had one of the best meals of our entire vacation. The food is outstanding!! We started with chips and queso which was very good. I had the fish tacos (grilled cod, cabbage slaw & Sriracha Ranch on corn tortillas). I have eaten lots of fish tacos all over Texas. These were the best I have ever had. The perfect balance of flavors - three very generously stuffed corn tortillas. My husband had the Brew Burger. When they say 1/2 a pound, they mean it! Char-grilled to perfection!! He said the flavor was excellent - he also added cheese and bacon. Friendly and attentive service too. Jordan was our waitress and did a great job keeping our drinks full and chatting when time allowed. We offered our compliments to the chef and explained what we liked about our meals - which was everything - and asked Jordan to please let the chef know how much we enjoyed our meal. A few minutes later Mark (I think) the owner stopped by our table for a visit. We repeated our praise and found out that he recently opened a second location in El Paso and tonight's chef was his kitchen manager (for both locations). If everyone working for him adheres to the same quality standards they will be around for a very long time! Bring the Brew to San Antonio!! Thanks for a great evening out after a long day...
Read moreWhen I went everything was 'aight. Food was 'aight, service was 'aight. But something happened that just changed everything. They were playing chumbawamba on the radio and I was just jammin' out to it while I waited for my food, and then the b**ches decided to switch it to some bullsheet station where it was playing some bubblegum pop crapola. You don't switch the station away from chumbawamba. Chumbawamba WAS my childhood, and a huge part of the 90s. How dare you brew for messing up my EXPERIENCE COMPLETELY. I just wanted to have a nice lunch with my sweet old gam gam and spend time with her as much as I can since she's so old and fragile, and can barely lift her spoon up to eat her tapioca pudding, and they pull this boo boo on us. My gam gam was a lifeguard at a local swimming pool when she was younger for years, and THIS IS HOW SHE'S REPAID!!!! You diss me, you diss my gam gam, and you diss chumbawamba. That like panic at the Disco doing bohemian rhapsody...YOU DON'T DO THAT!!!! will never go back...also gam gam cried. Do you feel good about yourselves? I bet you feel like a BUNCH OF...
