I had my doubts going in. Being the first one there led me to think I would get my food in a flash but that was not the case. Keep in mind this isn't fast food but a real sit down and order your food restaurant. So, I placed my order (Brisket Stuffed Potato, Green Chile Mac & Cheese, Jalapeno Cornbread, and David's Beans) with the very nice young lady and patiently waited. My diet coke came out with a wedge of lemon, I poured it into my glass of ice and got to sippin'. I snapped a few pictures and spoke to the pleasant man who seated me about the streamed Jazz. The sound quality was excellent and it really fit the atmosphere.

My food arrived and I surprised to put it lightly. My side dishes were ordered together as a "Side Sampler" which is any 3 sides. Those were as expected. The entree, the Brisket Stuffed Potato, on the other hand was enormous! I took a minute to look at it. It really was unbelievable. There were 2 squeeze bottles of sauces on the table, hot and mild. This being Texas I didn't know what to expect with the hot BBQ sauce so I went for the sissy-fied version. I did try the hot one later and it didn't burn me up and they both had a good flavor.

The Green Chile Mac & Cheese was good but it could've used more green chilies. It was still good so no points off for that. The Jalapeno Cornbread could have used more jalapeno but it, too, was still good so no points off. David's Beans were flavorful with bits of brisket throughout. The star of the show, the Brisket Stuffed Potato, was worth the wait. It's a baked potato stuffed with smoked brisket, cheese, green onion, peppers, salt, and butter. I took my time savoring every bite. It is worth ordering even if, like myself, you can't eat it all. (I'd like to see you try, you glutton!) It was quite satisfying and, even though it didn't need any adornments, I put a little of both bottles of BBQ sauces just to taste them on the food. They were both excellent additions.

I don't dine-in often but I'm glad I opted to do so. I have no complaints. Next time, I'll leave room for dessert and learn the names of the people involved with my BBQ experience!

Thank you...

I've been waiting for this place to open up for a while. As I understand it this was only the 2nd day it was open. What's my overall opinion, the service was outstanding and the food was really really good. Me and my son both got the 2 meat with 2 sides, I got the brisket and sausage and he got the ribs and turkey. I really like the ribs, You get two but these aren't small ribs they're a really good size and very meaty And the turkey was nice and moist. The brisket was really good unfortunately you only get one slice, It's not a small slice but I wish it was more. The sausage was pretty good, Not great but better than many of the sausages I've gotten at barbecue joints. As for the sides I really liked their beans, They were nice and thick not watery and the Potato Aug. Rotten was really good. I really liked their Cold Slaw some cold slow are just blind and some are super sweet this was right in the middle. I wasn't impressed with their Mac and cheese, instead of using Mac and cheese noodles they used long spiral noodles, Not bad just OK. The meals come with jalapeno corn bread and it was really good but I'm used to about a 2" by 2" piece and this was a 1" by 2" piece a little small. We finished off the meal with 2 pieces of cheesecake. I had iced tea and my son had water, the bill came out to about $45. I know it's may sound like a lot to some people but this is the going rate for barbecue. You do get good quality barbecue and also remember that everyone that works there are struggling to get Back on their feet, I assume any profits they make go back into the rescue mission. We will...

I really did not want to have a bad experience here because I love supporting local businesses. Especially tied to local churches and charity. Unfortunately there were just too many factors taking away enjoying my meal.

The non issues are that the plates are small and you have to specifically ask for BBQ sauce because it doesn't come automatically with the plates. Do not try to share these plates unless you're okay with one strip of brisket per person.

Now let me explain why my experience was so bad. From the start, several sides were unavailable which was disappointing, but not cataclysmic. We ordered a 2 meat 3 side plate with the intention to share. When me and my partner got our plate we immediately realized it was not enough for the both of us. We placed an order for another plate of brisket and BBQ sauce because who eats BBQ without sauce? We try the sides to hold off our hunger and the sides are all cold. We wait for service and let them know and ask for BBQ sauce again and wait for our sides now. They come back with one wrong side and no BBQ sauce and we eat some and finally steal some BBQ sauce from a vacant table to eat our now cold meat with. We never get the second order of brisket, we never get any kind of apology or even recognition that a plate was sent back, we never got the proper side, and so we left still hungry and disappointed.

The flavor of the brisket and meat and sides were fantastic when they were hot but the flavor wasn't enough to cancel out cold food and...

I respect the mission and wanted to love it. We went on a Thursday for lunch. Beautiful grounds & restaurant. We were greeted right away. A lot of the recipes have green chiles so we asked if the Mac & cheese was spicy. We were assured it wasn’t. Sweet tea and turkey are good. Ribs and potato salad are okay. Brisket was so dry it wasn’t edible. Potato au gratin needed to be cooked longer. The potatoes were still hard and the sauce was soupy. Mac and cheese was indeed spicy so we couldn’t eat it. I sat for a long time..not eating..plate full of food..not being asked how the food was.. When the waitress arrived for us to pay then I was given the opportunity to give feedback on the food. The waitress asked which brisket I ordered. As you can see, there’s only one offered on the menu..if there was more than one, she should have informed me. The waitress offered to “check with the kitchen”- I didn’t hear a solution in the offer so I declined. We were charged full price, which I normally would have challenged since I was leaving hungry but the money does go to a good cause. We won’t be back.

Food was great. Definitely a tex-mex fusion with some of the flavor profiles. I am accustomed to a central Texas style of barbecue places like Meat Church or Franklin's but this place was also very good. I ordered the 2 meat/2side platte. Ribs and brisket with pineapple coleslaw and David's beans along with an order of the 13 habanero sausage. I was expecting to be asked if I wanted spare ribs or babybacks and the same with the brisket with the point(wet) or the flat (dry) but I did not. The platter came out with baby backs and the flat of the brisket.. flavors were great and so was the tenderness. The sausage was mushy on the inside but had a great flavor profile. The only reason I docked it a star was due to the sausage being mushy inside. David's beans were good, cornbread was good. But the pineapple coleslaw was amazing. Wish I had more of that. Service was great and fast. It was a Sunday at lunch so not much of a crowd that time of day. Just wished they had the option for spareribs.
