Wow, what a nice historic home. It had lots of great personal items from the Era and the construction is wonderful with an except for the wall that is currently braced and being repair. That repair is being managed by professionals so it made me feel that the stewards were taking care of the historic landmark the right way. The tour guide was personable and enjoyable. She was very knowledgeable about the building, the family and the El Paso history of the time. For a Saturday, there was only a couple of visitors. Not busy at all. The home is air conditioned so visiting during a hot day is just fine. The fee to get in is very reasonable, less than many state or national historic budings.
As much as the guide was knowledgeable, I'm a bit disappointed walking away from the home after the tour. I feel like there was so much more she could have told us about the home itself, to help transport us back in time and imagine being there with the family sharing their experiences. So much happened in the home. If I understand it's history, the home and the family in it was such a staple of the beginnings of El Paso. What stories there must have been. The guide did in fact tell us some of those amazing stories but only if we asked about specific items in the home. That's okay, but during tours in the historic homes and castles in the United Kingdom, you didn't need to ask. The guide would transport you back with no effort on your part to make you a part of that history. This is just a suggestion to elevate the experience.
Otherwise, I felt there was too few rooms in the home. I would have enjoyed seeing the historic kitchen, a favorite part of a home for me, so to understand the cooking of the Era.
Anyway, still a nice walk to a classic adobe territorial home. Man, they don't make them like that anymore. I really enjoyed...
Read moreI’ve been wanting to visit this Historic Texas Household since 2020, but the pandemic happened and y’all know the rest of the story. I was able to visit El Paso and took the time to visit the Magoffin Home. As I walked in the visitor center, I was warmly welcomed by Ms. Gloria. I paid the admission and we walked toward the house. When Ms. Gloria opened the front door and welcomed me to enter the historic home, one is transported to another era. The original floors, original doors and hardware. The 140 year old Piano…so beautiful! I got to see Uncle Charlie’s Chair. The Master Bedroom was beautiful, but Ms. Josephine’s Bedroom was lavish. Original bathtub and sink, prayer room. It was so cool! Ms. Gloria did a wonderful job giving me a tour. She has a sweet, pleasant voice. She gave so many historical accounts of the family, house, and the surrounding neighborhoods. She is knowledgeable and informative, ready to answer all my questions. Defined...
Read moreMy wife and I went to Magoffin Home State Historic Site on Oct/30/2021 for a quick visit, and it turned out to be one of the best experience of my life. The home was beautiful and well kept, but the best part about the visit was the Texas Historical Commission Clerk Gloria Garza, she was courteous and welcoming, not only she showed us to the site after we paid for the admissions, she even gave us a one on one full tour with detailed presentation of the home just for me and my wife, answered all the questions with patience, and a big great Texas smile the whole time, made us feel like royalty, we thoroughly enjoyed the attention, and we encourage anyone to look for Gloria if you are going to visit the home, it will not go wrong. Great job Gloria, we will remember you for a long long...
