Today some friend's and I visited 4 tap houses/bars/breweries in El Paso...all for the first time. We hit The Hoppy Monk, Hope & Anchor, Block - Table & Tap, and Dead Beach.
This was our second stop on the trip and while everything was good, it was #4-of-4 for beer and a sold #3-of-4 for food. The food was good but needed warning labels since some of it was extremely spicy. I guess technically the bar doesn't serve food as it came from the restaurant next door called Sabertooth Food Company.
When you walk in and have a seat the bartender comes over and let you know that they have 90 bottled beers and 9 beers on tap but there is no list of beers. He ask you what types of beer you like and he tells you what beers they have in that category. while impressive, I think I would prefer to look at a list since there may be beers and other categories that I like.
Food was a hit or miss but overall good. The hummus tasted house-made and the fish tacos were good but not something I would get again. The chicken tacos are so spicy they were virtually inedible by anyone that has any taste buds remaining. My friends said that the pork tacos and the house nachos were very good
The restaurants has an Eclectic appearance inside and while not spotless it was clean. The waiters, one for beer and one for food, we're both good and attentive but it was weird that we had to pay with two...
Read moreNew management has preference for playing hip hop all night regardless of the crowd. Key tip to anyone serving as DJ is know your audience. Take a look at the crowd pics and decide for yourself if this is your typical hip hop group or fans. Another item to note, if you visit during the hot days or nights, they don't run AC on the inside and the outdoor patio lacks any form of misters. Beyond that, it's still a nice place to relax to standard beer or cocktails with either your date, family, or friends no matter how large or small the party. Added bonus is you can now order food from Sabertooth restaurant which offers quicker service than the Hope Anchor...
Read moreI would say this place has terrible service, but that would require any service at all. A group of four of us sat and waited for 20 minutes with no service, no greeting and no drinks. Eventually one of us got up to ask for food menus and ask for service (we were told that no one works the patio and they all "take turns") we sat waiting with menus for another 20 minutes and decided to leave. On the way out my wife spoke with the manager name Crystal to tell her about the terrible experience and she didn't even say anything back, not even a "sorry". Just stood quietly. NEVER GOING BACK! WOULD...
