Tejas Café is hands down our family's favorite go-to spot in El Paso, especially after church on Sundays. Even when they are busy, our family of eight, including six kids, always gets seated right away. My wife can't get enough of their tacos and salsa, and we both appreciate how friendly and welcoming the staff is, not just to us and our kids, but to everyone. It’s clear they enjoy their work and their customers. The whole place has a charming small-town feel, which reminds me of where I grew up, and the food is simply excellent. I usually go for the steak tampiqueña breakfast, which is hard to beat, and the all-day breakfast menu is a huge plus. And when we’re feeling extra special, we all share a banana split—an old-school treat that’s hard to find these days. If you’re looking for authentic food and a place that feels like home, Tejas Café is it. Five stars all the way! Update: They now also have a loyalty program to earn rewards points...
Read moreI hadn't eaten there in several years so I decided to try it again. My go-to Mexican food restaurants are Las Fuentes, Rincon de Cortez, La Malinche, and El Zarape. They all offer at least 2 lunch specials, and they include soup and a drink. Tejas Cafe's blackboard said their only lunch special that day was the chicken enchilada plate with rice & beans for $10.99, and it made no mention of soup or drink being included in the price. I tried it anyway. It was reasonably good but the bowl of salsa was half the size of other restaurants, and the rice portion was also smaller. I can't complain about the service. It was friendly and efficient. But as far as value for the money, Tejas falls far short of its competitors. After the tax and additional charge for the tea, my bill was over 14 bucks, and it didn't even include soup. I won't make a recommendation, but I will say I won't be a regular customer...
Read moreI gave it 3 stars because I was very disappointed they were closed when online says it was open. I understand during this times things are uncertain but I have stopped supporting a few local restaurants because of their inconsistencies on their hours and lack of updating us to let us know. I was looking forward to eating from this place but I had to take my business somewhere else since I called 3 times and no one answered. Then I drove there and found out it was closed. Although online and on their door is says they should be opened. I saw this sign and took a picture for others to see what their hours really...
