EL FARO MEXICANN CUISINE — Restaurant in Elgin

I grew up eating at El Faro on state street, route 31, in Elgin, and they were the best taqueria ever. The line was usually long but the food was hot and freshly cooked. I moved back to the area recently and tried El faro on Lillian street in Elgin, it's the old, original Kentucky fried chicken building, and let me say, it's not very good. They cook the steak in advance and leave it sit on the grill in a pile, so the meat in the burrito is crunchy and dry. Burrito meat is not supposed to be black, but this place obviously takes short cuts and the food tastes like it. I can't stand to eat a steak burrito with little crunchy nuggets of steak, it actually looks like it was meat they were going to throw away, but they sell it to non Mexican customers, probably figure that we don't know any better. I don't live in Elgin, but I have made a special trip several times to eat there and have only enjoyed it once. The other times the burritos really sucked bad. Sorry El Faro, but you were the king of the best tasting burritos for many years, but not any longer. My father in law found a piece of plastic in his food (image posted on this page). He could have choked on it. As a result the rest of the family did not eat their food in fear of finding additional objects. We filed a complaint to their manager but she only offered a replacement for that one taco.
