While I was recently in New Jersey a quick Google search, for a good restaurant near my hotel, lead my sorority sister and I to Algarve. Algarve Restaurant states they are a traditional Portuguese restaurant with a modern twist. This restaurant is nestled into a residential community. The parking lot is small, so finding street parking might be difficult. I was lucky enough to park in the lot, in the one vacant spot. It was a Thursday evening, so I could only imagine patrons having to circle the block to find parking on the weekends. Algarve is a white linen restaurant, with surprisingly affordable dishes. Our waiter was pleasant. The food was absolutely delicious! The portion sizes are enough for two to three meals. My delicious meal consisted of the appetizer Clams In Garlic Sauce (Clams sautéed with garlic, cilantro, and white wine), Garden Salad (Mixed Greens, tomatoes, red onions, cucumbers, shredded carrots, house vinaigrette dressing) and Beef Short Ribs with Roasted Potatoes and Mixed Vegetables.

So we being coming to algarve for a while, we like the service and the food. Today we wanted to enjoy the sangria with the octupus and the ribeye. Its is not the 1st time we order this dishes. I couldn’t believe when I tasted the ribeye it tasted sour and funny, I felt uncomfortable and told the waitress I did not like the taste of the meat that I thought it was expired. They took my plate and then came back and asked me if I wanted something different, I then asked for the skirt steak that is not as tasty and as expensive as the ribeye. I ended up waiting too long for the skirt steak to come out so I took it to go. The thing that blows my mind is that this people charged me for the (expired) ribeye $34.95 instead of charging me for the skirt steak $31.99 and did not say a word about that incident or gave a complementary drink or dessert. I really don’t care about the money is the lack of touch with clientele that visits them regularly and spends a good amount of money. We won’t be coming here anymore.

Visiting the area after a very long time not being there, my friends suggested to meet at this restaurant. Arrived 10 minutes before them and after a long time, the bar tender suggested choosing a table since they weren’t busy at that time. Picked a suitable table for my friends and I and sat down. For over 20 minutes no one came to welcome or attend to us, so I got up and asked a server “Fernando” to attend to us. We placed our orders for food and drinks and it took even longer to get the most basics like drinks and bread for example. Finally the food arrived and the taste made up for the wait. Was delicious and big portions. We had our meals and asked for the check. Although, I ordered vegetable soup along my order, it never came but was charged in the check. Didn’t make a big deal, paid the check and tipped over 20% and left. Was more important to me meeting my friends after a long time and enjoying a very good meal and time with them. It’s worth a visit for the joy of great food.

Ive been eating at this place for over 20 years. This day I decided to take my family instead of ordering take-out which I always do. Parking was great as the lot was empty. The restaurant was not full at all and our food was excellent and came out quick. The reason for the 3 stars is for the service. Our 1st waiter had a serious attitude problem . I watched him rolling his eyes several times while each person gave him their order. I was confused. We all knew what we wanted and had very few questions about side orders and extras. After getting our food we never had any staff return to our table to check on us or our drinks. I had to call the hostess over to ask where was our waiter 4 times. She didn't know but someone from the bar came and THEY still didn't ask us anything. This guy actually behaved as if we were unnecessarily calling for help. He ALSO had a bad attitude. We asked for water in fear of having to wait long for refills of our sodas. Upon finishing our meal we still had no one come and check on us. I had to call the hostess again and I begged her "Madame can you find a waiter for us? " I wanted the check because I was so done with the attitudes and being ignored. Another guy came from the bar as I watch the hostess interrupt him cheering some game on TV, and I asked him about a waiter . He apologizes and States the waiter is on a lunch break. You mean to tell me that you don't have coverage for tables for staff breaks? It's 230pm why is he even on a break? Where is the replacement for him? 3 of your are watching TV now!! The restaurant is 30% full!!! You can't just drop customers because you have a break. What kind of business is this? I literally paid the bill and told him to keep the $2 in change . I will N E V E R take my family here again. In one day our 20 year relationship is over. I don't know if it was a race issue, a business issue or ignorance but I didn't appreciate being abandon as a...

Hi everyone, it's the third time my husband and I have come to eat at this restaurant, but I don't think we will be back. The first time we came with friends everything went well, including the service. My husband and I returned the second time, always yummy and the service was not like the first time but fine. Went back 2 weeks ago, still great food but this time the service was HORRIBLE!!! The waiter arrived and took the order and from that moment we never saw him again, only the busboy came to bring us the dishes and from that moment no one approached to our table to ask if everything was ok, if we needed any drink NONE OF THIS!!! When I saw, by some miracle, I called the busboy and he seemed annoyed too. At the time of paying I called a waitress who was close to a table and we asked for the bill, she very politely asked me if everything was ok and I said no, I told her our waiter was COMPLETELY DISAPPEARED and I explained the situation to her . She apologized and said the waiter was new. They weren't busy at all that day, was Saturday, even though the waiter was new and he has experience he can't give such a service, I WILL NOT ACCEPT IT AS AN EXCUSE. If you know how to do your job, no one complains and customers are satisfied, but apparently not. We didn't even...

This Portuguese restaurant isn't the MOST amazing place but has decent food and not too pricey. We have been frequenting this place for the last 15 years and the quality and service have slowly been degrading. Their menu choices have reduced and they started adding on charges for to go orders.

My most recent will likely be the last visit. I waited for 15 minutes after being seated before flagging down the waiter for my drink order (It was a slow day due to inclement weather). We were neglected throughout our visit and kept having to flag the service staff to take our order, bring out the sides that were supposed to be served with our order, the check, etc. The final straw when I noticed the valet damaged my car and refused to accept responsibility. When the manager was called, he shrugged it off as though it were MY fault the vehicle was damaged. Years of patronage or even simple customer service meant nothing to this man as blatantly he told me he trusted his employee over me and I was out of luck!

Sorely disappointed in what this place has become. Unbelievable that any manager would ever tell off a customer in such manner, much less loyal patrons. Next time I'll go three blocks down the street...
